Got on the water today for 5 hours, what a beutiful morning and early afternoon. Saugers were biting for us today, 15-23 feet of water. Super Doo’s is all we used, in the morning the darker colors worked for us with catalupe (sp) orange over brown being the best producer with light green- brown coming in a close second. Later in the morning we had to go to lighter colors with chartruse pepper the hot color. Most of the fish we caught today were between 16″ and 18″ inches, with a handful of 15″s in the mix.

After all the saugers I have caught I still can’t get over some of the neat patterns on these fish. Attached is one of the smaller but neatest looking fish of the day. Thats Jake my co-worker with this fish…

Saw the Big Guy out incognito today. Notice the bend in the rod.

Great report with nice pics Hawg! Seemed to be an AWESOME day on the water for just about everybody! I think that guy holding that catfish is in cognito as to not disclose his secret passion for catfishing…..?

I new it was only a matter of time before he made the switch to cats. H20, did that fish bite or did you snag it??

It bit. Or at least I think it did. Jig was well into the mouth anyway. Hit a ringworm in 13′ of water. We absolutely SLAMMED the fish today. Lots of nice fish with a dandy mid-winter average of about 18″. Caught quite a few 19″ – 20″ saugers and a handful of walleyes over 20″ too. Topping out about 22″. Nothing huge…. but lots of fish. Most of the morning we were getting 3 – 4 fish per short drift. We quit at 2 PM feeling completely content and refreshed… it was exactly what this guy needed…. I hadn’t done any more than a couple hours in the boat at any one time for quite a stretch and hadn’t been on the water at all in weeks. I hooked up another cat… although this one was much larger and my 4Lb test mono was done for when my patience with this particular fish ran a bit thin…. plus this fish gave off that easy to spot “wide waggle” indicating the fish was snagged well back of the dorsal… likely in the tail. No fair snagging so I parted the line with a quick tug… but for that short amount of time I had ahold of her I could tell she was a true beast.

We cleaned up on electric blue/purples/grape in the afternoon and lighter/brighter colors in the early AM.

Hawg, Thanks for taking the pic for me and for the short-term loan of a real net. Bucktail Wayne carries a butterfly net with him for some reason!…lol If was fun watching you out in the channel vertical jigging today. We were “sneaky catching” fish inside the crowds and you were lapping the field out in the deeper water. Everytime I’d look over you guys would have another nice fish flopping on the surface and it looked like the rest of the boats got stuck with the dinks. You were doing something right for sure. Fishing’s funny… you guys switched from dark to light in the afternoon and we did the exact opposite to stay on the walleyes in the shallows? Interesting, yes?!

Man did it feel GOOD to be back on the water!…. woooHooo!

Ken Z, John W, and I were also out there 2/20 but did not do as well as some of the others. We stayed away from the crowds at the dam and explored different areas most of the day. We did manage to catch a few fine fish — attached is a picture of John Walter with a good looking walleye. We only caught a couple fish shorter than 15”.

At times, the northers were biting better than the walleyes/sauger. The eagles really did enjoy all the smaller fish floating down from the killing hole and put on quite an aerial show for everyone.

Attatched is 6 of the many fish Bucktail Wayne and H2O caught yesterday. I was gonna save this pic for a report, but since Dustin has an awesome looking report up there, i’ll post the pic here. They did a good job of releasing all the fat females and only keeping some of the nice males. Nice fish guys.

And James has been telling me hes been so swamped with computer stuff. Busted, now we all know hes been out catin around [catfish] probably so he can join the catfish club that Steve runs out of Everts with tournaments etc. lol. Does this mean he is now a converted Catman? Will he grow a mustache like the fish he is chasing? Will he trade his boat in for a catfish boat? Will his boat smell like chicken liver and fish guts? Keep tuning in to FTR to find out!

[think I’ve been cooped up tooooo long]
