I know many of you fish out of your boat almost year-around. What kind of heater do you recommend?

    Thanks!! – jim

I use a Mr. Heater. It puts off a nice band of radiant heat. But in addition to this I will be bringing my Sportsman’s Multipurpose heater….. It will heat up my lunch on the cold spring days……I haven’t given it a try exclusively in the boat but I will let you know this spring…..It will be nice if I don’t have to bring both out…

Mr. Heater here as well, it is nicer to have the bigger propane tanks for the boat though, then you don’t have to worry about freezing your hands when you have to unscrew that 1 gallon propane tank

The lowest setting on my Mr. Heater is 3000BTU

How about yours ? I’m thinking it must be less ?

I also seem to get three or four hours from a 1lb tank, and I was thinking the settings on mine were 8, 12, and 14,000 BTU’s. Now I’m going to have to go dig up the paperwork.

yeah but the thing is it is nicer because you don’t have to mess around with it being so tippy and bumping it all the time. It sits pretty solid in the boat when you have that big one.

It might be a little bulky for some boats but if you use a 20#
cilinder ( gas grill type) with your Mr Heater put it in a plastic milk case it fits tight it stays uprightand gas should last a long time

You’re right Dave, it is 3000 btu. I used to do that with my larger tank and heater, very stabil, but it still seemed to take up too much room in the boat sometimes.

I use a coleman radiant heater, with a 1 lb. tank. It has 3,500 & 5,000 settings, small and will last longer than I will fish.

You guys really had me wondering, so I went ahead and looked it up:

8, 12, and 14,000 BTU’s, and I know that on the low setting it will last for a few hours on a 1lb tank. I have never bothered to use it on a higher setting, as ‘low’ on that thing means “burn your legs in the fish house.”
