Well, Mike W. and I spent the afternoon on pool 2 with some success. We put in at the 494 bridge launch at about 1:30 pm and came off at about 6:00 pm. Tried some wingdams on our way up to the airport, nothing but a nice fat carp. At the airport we put 6 nice sauger and one nice eye in the boat. The sauger were really nice all around 20 inchers and the eye was about the same. Was really great to get out, neither of us had been out in the boat for about 2 months, and we needed a fix really bad. The day was great, nice temp, but a slightly brisk breeze, but still nice. There were a few others out, but overall the river was ours to fish where we wanted, saw Boone out for the afternoon, was nice to see him.

The boat hadn’t been started for those 2 months and had an idea that it would start a little hard, but to my pleasure the F150 fired on the turn of the switch and ran as perfect as ever. THe T8, as suspected started a little less quickly, but as usual she fired up after a few seconds of coaxing. All in all the rig preformed 110% as usual.

A fine day on the water was what was needed, and we got it. The only thing that that we missed was watching the Bears get smacked around. Oh well, there is always next year.

Thanks for the update. I too was on the river, though I got on at about 3:45 a.m. and I wasn’t the first one out. I saw a rig in the parking lot that looked familiar-was that you Steve? I jumped to several different wing dams til I found a couple of populated ones. Purple/white tail ring worm got me a 23″r at about 6a.m. and 27″r at 7a.m..

Once the sun came up I headed to the airport area to try some vertical jigging. I didn’t have any luck so am curious as to what you guys were using to fool them saugers. Would you mind sharing?

    Good Fishn to ya!

Jigging ringworms on the edge of the channel found fish for us. Purple and chartruse ringworms. I think the chartruse did a little better than the purple. Only got to spend a hour or so up there so didnt have alot of time to play around with different baits. It was good to set the hook back into a fish after not being on the water for awhile.

Anyone else out over the weekend?

Well its nice to see someone caught fish on P2 yesterday.. Gary Wellman and I hit the river at 6 am and only had a few short bites to show for it..All in all it was GREAT to be one the water..I really enjoyed it…I was amazed on January 15th to be fishing out of the boat with no gloves on .
I will be back as soon as I can!!!

I was out early on Saturday morning. It was C-O-L-D! I had to break ice away from the landing, but there wasn’t enough to create a serious problem. I spent most of my couple hours out there scouting some new spots for an afternoon/evening trip I had planned. I didn’t boat any fish (had one solid strike that didn’t stick), but I learned more about a few spots that I hadn’t previously spent much time on. I ended up hitting P4 in the afternoon (partner’s preference) instead and did pretty well down there.
