I had the chance to sneak out on the river with Dustin for a couple hours yesterday afternoon and I’m happy to report the fishing is pretty darn good.

The weather yesterday was a blessing in and of itself. I recall standing at the back of Dustin’s boat dragging jigs, rod in each hand, face tipped up toward the warm sun grabbing rays like a fat cat on a couch thinking how wonderful it is to get a day like this in January.

IF you haven’t been out this week to get out in some of this unseasonably warm weather I suggest you do so. The effect it has on one’s mood and spirits can’t be overstated.

Back to the fishing…. we had a couple hours to play with so we stuck to dragging jigs. 6 Lb mono & a 3/32 oz. bright colored precision head + a firecracker, oystershell or electric blue pearl tail ringie has been good.

We stuck to depths of 8′ – 12′. First little pass on sand inside a current seam yielded 4 legals with 2 over 20″. The largest would have weighed in at 5.5 Lbs or so and was rediculously fat.

We hopped around a little after that and found the bite to be fairly wide spread. Finding fish using this technique should not be an issue.

I hope a bunch of people from the site are able to get out and enjoy some time on the water this week. The fishing is solid and the temps can’t be beat.

Sweet. Thanks for the update James. I hope to hit the river both days this weekend.

“Tanks fer nuttin'” James! I live 2 hours away, boats in storage and I don’t ice fish. Guess I can live with reading about fishing for the mean-time.

Keep your eyes on the Trip Swap forum. Its not uncommon at all for guys to post open seats for fishing on pool 4. Or post a request yourself. If you tell people you’re willing to split gas I will all but guarantee you will find open seats in a hurry.

Sorry James…it was fishing envy coming through.

My withdrawl will be taken care of with a trip to Florida in Feb and I’m picking up a new jet outboard rig from Blazer in southern Missouri in March. Yee ha!

Good luck with the new boat. It should be a sweet ride in the skinny waters of the upper miss!

say ,i see a switch to 6# line , or is that standerd for mono. for you.or is there a little change that makes things work better for you with the 6 instead of the 8.

8# sensation is actually 6# diameter. 0.010″ if I can recall accurately. I’m using the same old stuff.

I use 6# Trilene XL or Sensation only.
