Good bite on 2 today. Started at the airport with about a half dozen takers. Lots of small fish to be had. Finnished up the day north of the 494 bridge. We where able to stay on a consistent bight there. Plastics where the go to bait again today. I have given up bringing minnows with. Rivereyes managed to kill just a couple of what he brought before he switched also. Ringworms, superdoos, tube baits, kalins all caught fish today. It was a treat to watch rivereyes doing his thing with the doos today. Good day to be on the water.

Good bite on 2

I made it out last night for about 4 hours after dark with only a couple small fish to show for it. Due to the wind, I tried some new areas last night that show some new promise. I have been playing with a modified carolina floating ringworm rig the last couple of outings and have proved both times as a producer when I couldn’t get bit with a regular ringworm. I had a nasty cross wind last night in the area I wanted to fish, and I could not present a lighter ringworm the way I wanted to. So, out came a carolina walleye rig. I rigged up a 1/2oz egg sinker with a swivel and a shorter 12 inch snell and a floating jighead and a ringworm. Sounds goofy I know, but the few fish that hit this on the last couple of outings, they have completely inhaled it. I needed a needle nose pliers to retrieve it again. This technique so far has been working on moderate depths on sand flat areas. I was picting a break from 9-15ft depths and because it was just sand, I could work this rig with just a slow pull alnog the sand and pause and pull and pause. I did lose a very heavy eye a couple outings ago on this rig, she made it to the side of the boat and shook off. She was a nice one!
Looks like reality is setting in with the winter front on its way.
Mike, was that you and Riveryes working just north of the 494 bridge around 4:00pm-dark last night? I was the little 14′ Lund that fished that stopped briefly and anchored on a wingdam and then went south aways after that. The area just north of you on the inside turn has taken some nice fish lately to some vertical jiggers as well.
January 9, 2003 at 4:21 pm #250141I fought the wind at the airport for much of the afternoon and got about 15 but all were small except one decent sauger. Chartreuse jig and minnor worked better than orange jig. Tried a pumpkin Kalin tail, no bites after a while so I went back to minnows.
January 9, 2003 at 5:56 pm #250148thanks for taking me out Mike!… it was a pleasure!…..
and we got some REAL nice fish… my camera was not with me…. but wish it was.. lots of 18+ sauger
including at least one over 20 that Mike pulled in…..January 9, 2003 at 6:40 pm #250149I am suprised Mike let you in the boat with minnows. I have been weening him off the minnows, and hope he doesn’t have a relapse. This plastics thing can work like a 12 step program, you know…….lol
Glad you guys got out and found the fish……gotta love it….Jan. 8th and still fishin’ in the boat.
January 9, 2003 at 8:09 pm #250154Ive fished pool 2 for years and never got into a good bite without minnows… so naturally I brought em… funny cause on pool 4 Ive been a confirmed plastics guy till last trip when minnows was the only answer……
but we had an easy bite going on plastics.. the minnow guys were pulling short fish….. we were getting those too… but also some REALLY nice saugers….January 9, 2003 at 9:05 pm #250160Yes that was us. We did find some nicer fish north of the second green can. To bad the weather is changing.
