    Good Morning,
was on Pool 4 all day monday with two friends from my club. temps were very mild in the 40’s most of day, did have some rain, on and off, but not really a problem. it was NOT even windy. so overall it was very tolerable weather as compared with what moved into our area last night and this morning.
fishing was quite good, numbers of Saugers was the rule, caught mostly on plastics, ringworms, doo’s and paddletails and minnows. depths that produced was 20-25 feet. stayed in the Y area most of the time. was up around wingdams in the afternoon and early evening, still good up there. no real big fish showed up for the day, it was mainly a sheer numbers day, which is always fun. the enclosed picture is Fred with his biggest fish of the day. I was hoping it was a big catfish but not to be. took about 15 minutes to get it in.

Thanks for the update Jack. I was out on Sunday and had quite similar results. Numbers of fat saugers on vertically-jigged plastics, a couple of eyes caught pitching plastics around the wingies. No bigguns, but hard to beat the weather for the end of November. We’ll pay for that warmth in December.

Thanks for the report Jack. Sounds like you have a good day of fishing. Were any other boats around you pulling 3 ways and live bait or cranks or is most everyone just veritical jigging plastics now? I am anxious to get back over to Pool 4 again but would like a little warmer weather than is predicted for the rest of this week.

There were a half dozen rigs pulling 3-ways and cranks while I was down on Sunday. I ran into one 3-wayer at Everts afterwards, and he had a nice bag of saugers.

    Eyes,
I noticed only one other boat doing any trolling, and didn’t notice him netting anything. am sure he caught some, just not when I was watching. There really was only a handful of boats, and most were jigging. there were 2 or 3 boats casting to shorelines, saw one boat a walleye about 5 pounds. we had about 60 fish total for the three of us, like I said, mainly an action day, just not many really good fish. keep us posted how you do.

    Jack,

I was the guy in the flat working the shoreline. I kind of wondered if that was you. I was convinced I could get them shallow but it didn’t work. Only had 4-5 hits and missed all of them. Sounds like the crank trolling bite has been hot but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Guess it’s that bass mentality.
Monday was my first walleye outing for the season and I forgot a lot of key items (shakedown cruise). That hurt my boat control etc. but I did OK when I went vertical. If could have skipped the rain it would have been a spectacular day.

Jack, Riverfan, I was also over there on monday. I was in the green warrior casting the shorelines. We did really good on walleyes. All fish ran from 14-23 with one 25. Jack where you talked to me we caught a few but then we moved over by the vermilion and did a lot better. Most of our fish came on hair/meat. Dont be afriad to go shallow.

    Willie,

Do you think the “meat” made a difference? I worked the area you started on with plastics and came up empty handed.

It may have had something to do with it, but I also caught a couple without.

    willie and john,
i’d say it doesn’t hurt to keep most of your bases covered, esp when these LOW pressure systems and fronts move in. I’d try plastice, hair, and hair with minnow. it prob is good to just not work one presentation or area. keep changing up your baits, including w/minnow and no minnows, and let the fish tell you what they want. Looks like it will not warm up for a while, and down to below zero looks like by the weekend. keep up posted.

I was out on pool 4 on Sunday also. We started out with jig and minnow, and caught a couple of eyes and a bunch of saugers. We then switched to paddletails and then the bigger saugers were hitting them hard. I had about a 6# catfish hit my paddletail (I was hoping it was an eye), but I had fun bringing him in! Overall it was a pretty good day with some nice eaters.

Three weeks ago I caught fish in the Walleye Searchers tourney jigging plain hair jigs going down river and pulling 3-ways and crawlers up river. Water temps are alittle lower now so might need to replace that crawler with crankbaits behind the 3-way. There are times when a minnow might be needed as the temps drop, but also times without meat, but trying different tactics will show you what the fish want. Other tactics to try would be BFT ringworms both casted and dragged and BFT super doos drifting downstream just holding them slightly off bottom and of course the BFT paddletails with that very active tail to attract fish. Those three plastics from BFT are the best around, they do catch fish nice fish. And if you are really into casting try the BFT K-tails that present a big offering/meal to the fish when casting.
    Thanks, Bill
