Do any local bait shops near Red Wing carry these things. I might get a chance to come down tomorrow and would like to pick up a few to try.

Everts carries them both for sure…. not sure about anyone else… even if you choose to not launch at Everts you can always tie up to the dock and go buy some tackle/bait/food/whatever…… pretty handy actually…..
December 21, 2002 at 1:56 am #249373And Steve is about as nice a guy as you can find. He can help steer you to colors that are the hot ones for Winter and what is working now. On top of that he keeps the ramps clean at the resort so Winter launching is a pleasure rather than a slippery pain. Go check him out, you’ll be happy you did.
December 21, 2002 at 2:24 am #249374A friend of mine picked up some super doos and he said the tentacles wouldn’t seperate. After he seperated them he tossed it into the river, worked it, and when he brought it back to the top the tentacles were stuck together again. Now I wasn’t with him when this happened but has anyone else had this problem ? Is there a cure ? Could he have picked up a copy cat doo ?
December 21, 2002 at 7:07 am #249390From my experience with the doos….the tentacles stick together when out of the water….just the way the plastic is. BUT, a few weeks back, Dustin and I had my underwater camera out and looked at a super doo underwater. The tentacles moved ever so slightly in a “eat me” fashion! We were in virtually no current and all the tentacles were “dancing”. It looked very good!
December 21, 2002 at 9:21 pm #249407SuperDoos I purchased a couple years back, not from B-Fish_N, came covered in a very very fine sand. It appeared the DOOs were tumbled in that stuff when taken out of the molds . Those Doos had much better separation on the tantacles than my more recent ones from Dave’s store. I do not know the supplier of either but just my experience with them.
December 22, 2002 at 3:02 pm #249417LundgEYE, I get some like those in “sand” some times… but I figure the “light sand” to be sea-salt crystals. I gotta say though, I never tasted them to find out .
I have found that the way I hook the Do’s on to the jig does make a difference in the seperation and movement of the tentacles. I hook them with the Do’s “belly” down. See my post:
http://www.fishtheriver.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=pool4&Number=11064&Forum=pool4&Words=Super%20Do%27s&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=1year&Main=11064&Search=true#Post11064
Then too, some come from the mold/cut process made without a good cut. I have had some that I have had to seperate the tentacles with my fingers. And I have had to pitch a few that never got cut at all. Such is the MFG. process.
Some of my customers (and I) have noted the plastic is more limp in some do’s than others… by the run. Some of the tentacles stick straight out on some and on others, the tenacles are so limp that they ball-up and stick to each other. These seem to open up ok, once in the water. I have caught fish on both kinds… “stiff” and “limp”.I do wonder how the Kick’n Bass Walleye Garlic scent is doing… I have shipped out hunderds of samples with the plastics ordered from the EFN Outlet Store and only had a few replys. All that did respond back liked the results they had with using the scent. You guys let me know as I am thinking that I may continue putting in these small scent containers into the plastics bags… for your option, rather than scenting the plastics.
For a Christmas gift offer on the EFN Outlet Store, I am shipping the next five B-Fish-N Tackle “plastics” orders with a free black EFN – FTL winter style hat… and starting that right now. I will come back to post when those five hats are gone and who they went to. Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year .

Dave “Hoggie” HoggardBrian LyonsPosts: 894December 23, 2002 at 1:34 am #249425Here is my two cents worth on the Doos. I’ve had some of mine for over ten years. I really don’t worry about the tentacles as long as they are cut. What I don’ like is when the body gets bent. So you just have to take care and store them properly..Don’t just stuff em in a ball in your bag. They are like any other plastic take the time to store them straight.. It is a confidence thing with any artificial bait. You have to know the fish are going to take it..This board has given you a wealth of information. The Doo’s are a no brainer bait put on a jig drop it to the bottom lift and just do nothing. The fish with pound it. If your going to jig it, jump it, hop it, try a different plastic..like a twister or a shad body…When your using the Doo just remember Don’t Do anything else just drag it. Hey Dave thanks for reposting the riggin of a Doo I bought some from you the other day to give a friend and printed your article to go along with them.. THANKS
December 23, 2002 at 2:26 am #249427I did a product review on them this summer when I was using them for bass. All I got to say is ” Hang on”. Here is that product review in what worked for me.
http://www.fishtheriver.com/prod_reviews/index.asp?staffid=50&prodid=8December 23, 2002 at 3:35 am #249433Thanks for all the discussion about this you guys, I had not thought the fine stuff around the old DOOS could be salt.. In any case, the articles you guys pointed us to are great. Amazing how much more confidence in plastics I have than a year ago, buying minnows and keeping them alive is getting to be a thing of the past. And you are all so very right about the slam these things produce….they just inhale ’em and run. Great fun!
December 23, 2002 at 8:29 am #249436Thanks Dave for putting out the info and pics on rigging the super dos. For the ones who don’t know, the odd ball jig pictured is the same exact jig as the knuckleball jig. Fin-tech made that jig for Bait Rigs and it was called the odd ball jig by them. Fin-tech nows sells the jig themselves and its called the knuckleball jig. It is sold in the EFN Store under B-FISH-N Tackle.
December 23, 2002 at 2:27 pm #249438Three more EFN – FTL hats to go…
For a Christmas gift offer on the EFN Outlet Store, I am shipping the next three B-Fish-N Tackle “plastics” orders with a free black EFN – FTL winter style hat… I will come back to post when those three hats are gone and who they went to. Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year .

Two hats to go…
“Hoggie” HoggardDecember 26, 2002 at 6:59 pm #249534I got a call from Mike Westman… he’ll get a hat with his order . One hat to go!
“Hoggie”December 27, 2002 at 4:51 pm #249555Bill, allow me to correct you a bit on the difference in the Bait rigs OddBall Jig and Fin-Tech’s Nuckle Ball Jig, as I know it to be.
Bait Rigs Tackle Co. of Madison WI. made the origional OddBall Jig, which Mike Huppert designed. Mike Huppert now has Fin-Tech make that origional jig head design and it is now known as the Nuckle Ball Jig. Bait Rigs Tackle no longer makes the same jig. The Nuckle Ball Jig is a great design… of a round head, stand up, wide open gap, competition & high tech jig… that works and works very well! It has a great hook also, that is made with a custom Mustad hook. This custom hook has a special bend in the shank to aid in holding plastics and live bait.Bait Rigs Tackle is now making another and very different design for what they call the OddBall Jig. This “new” OddBall Jig is the jig which is in the photo/post above, which I show with the Super Do on it. It is much different from Huppert’s origional OddBall Jig design. The new OddBall Jig is a great jig design too. It offers a set of live bait “keeper” barbs on the hook shank as an option to the origional Bait Rigs Tackle OddBall Jig and the Nuckle Ball Jig design. This “keeper” barbs on the hook shank design is great for holding plastics, crawlers and minnows also. It too has a custom Mustad hook but with a different bend on the hook shank, is a round head, stand up, wide open gap, competition & high tech jig… that works and works very well. It has a head which is much different from the origional design.
I love both jigs for their design and function. The top jig is the new Bait Rigs Odd Ball and the lower in the photo is the Nuckle Ball Jig.
December 27, 2002 at 4:57 pm #249558Mike Huppert has now made the NuckleBall Zone-R Jig. It is a version of the Nuckle Ball Jig design that has been made more “slim” by removing the sides of the round head. This new design is much less resistant to curent than the origional. Being more sleek and thin than the round design of the Nuckle Ball, it can be worked closer to the boat and at a lesser degree of angle in any given curent. And the Nuckle Ball Zone-R Jig is available in the larger weights needed to fish deep, in moving water. This Nuckle Ball Jig Zone-R is a round head, stand up, wide open gap, competition & high tech jig. It has the same great hook that has a special bend in the shank to aid in holding plastics as the NuckleBall Jig.
You are going to like this design and be able to tell the difference in comparison to the regular KuckleBall Jig when fishing plastics. I sure can.
December 27, 2002 at 5:37 pm #249556Thanks Hoggie! I was miss informed about the Odd’ball jig as I thought it was no longer made or sold under that name and that the manufacture was now marketing the jig under their own name. I didn’t realize there are NOW two different jigs. Just goes to show a person is never too old to learn and I appreciate the chance to learn more about tackle and fishing. I was talking back and forth by e-mails with Mike, owner of Fin-Tech Tackle Co. who makes the famous Nuckleball Jigs and he told me that he was down fishing on pool 4 the other day from 12:30 – 2:00 and had real good luck on the Nuckleball Zone-R jig, you have a pic of it in your post Hoggie, drifting. He had two rods out. Caught one fish on the jigging rod jigging and ALL the others came on a dead stick [rod in the rod holder] with the Zone R jig and minnow set about a foot off bottom and just drifting it. The Zone R jig really slices through the water and holds that bait just where you want it. A must jig in my tackle box thats for sure. Maybe now I can kick Nates ”em” when it comes to jigging as now he can be jigging that soon to be sore arm all day while I kick back and let the Zone R jig with bait do all the work for me. Can you imagine what that Zone R jig would do with ringworms and Superdos on them. Look out fish! Thanks for the update Hoggie, much appreciated. And by the way, Hoggie does sell the Nuckleball Zone R kits under B-Fish-N Tackle in the EFN Store. Bill
December 28, 2002 at 3:21 am #249565Nuckle Ball Zone-R Jigs do work great on wingdams… I have tried them out on that… and they rock! I was first one out by the dam from Everts one morning, and threw some Zone-R’s with ringworms and K-Grubs… took me loosing a couple to get the weight down right… the smaller you can get by with, is better. You want that K-Grub swimming! Here is a fish I took crack of dawn on the rig that day.

December 28, 2002 at 3:38 pm #249580A Nuckleball Zone R jig with a plastic bait and a Fishtheriver.com hat, what a combination! And all available in the EFN Store under B-Fish-N Tackle.
December 29, 2002 at 12:54 am #249587Bill,
No harm done in telling the truth about it, when you do like a product. All of us learn about new stuff this way… sharing the news and our views.
I have fished a lot of jigs the over the years… it just takes a good jig with the right hook to do the job “right”! And these Zone-R Jigs are “right-on”.

“Hoggie”December 31, 2002 at 6:13 pm #249699Hi Folks,
I’m a little late in adding to this thread but I have some great news on B-Fish-N Tackle Ringworms and Super Do’s.
Hopefully, by late January or early february these same kits that you see on EFN will be available at the 7 Twin Cities area Gander Mountain Stores as well as LaCrosse WI, Rochester MN, Davenport IA and Rockford Ill. Dave Hoggard and I have finalized the details and we hope to have these in store on or before 2/1/03. Gander will be stocking the following kits:
Ringworm 100 packs: Neon, Classic and Core Colors
Super Do 100 packs: Real Shad, Custom and Classic Colors
K-Grub Kits 48 pack 5″: Clear and Stained water colors.Dave and I have also discussed smaller packs (20-25) of super do’s and ringies for the “not so committed to plastics” guys as well. I’ll try to send out a post when they are in store and ready to roll!
Thanks & Have a great new year!
Mike T
January 1, 2003 at 4:36 pm #249723Thanks “Mike T” for letting the FTR guys know.
You folks at Gander Mountain are great to work with.
I am thrilled to see these kits go into your stores. This is 2 cool
James Holst has been a huge help to me in this process. James has hand-picked the right colors for each kit.
In an effort to return the favor, I have placed James Holst picture on all the kits header cards.
These B-Fish-N Tackle plastics kits should be very easy to spot on the shelves…. Just look for James holding up a hawg Walleye on the front of the kits! James has allowed me to include some of his “how to” fish plastics tips which are printed inside the header card also.
FUN

January 2, 2003 at 1:28 am #249742Hey Hoggie, Sounds way cool. Does that mean the online store will have the cards on the pack also?? One more question Have you got the dark colors in yet? Super Doo’s ( Drk/Green & green and the Blk/blue) Good job Dave. Thanks in advance.

I have the list handy that I put together for Dave. Coming up with a wide range of productive colors was one of my contributions to the deal. Here’s what I requested and I believe Dave’s intentions are to go with everything, across the board. Delivery times to Gander and to everyone else will be 2-3 weeks… but well in advance of prime time fishing around here.
