    Fish the dam area today for about 7 hours about a dozen nice saugers (14-16). Best action was a purple bucktail. Anyone explain I was catching all the eel pouts? Don’t mind catching a occasional one but 30-40 of them is crazy.

    That is odd, I thought eelpout as UGLY as they are, liked only clean cold water? The river must be getting cleaner?

    I guess this isn’t an eel Pout. This fish almost looks like a salamander.

    Mud puppies? I’ve caught them on the St. Croix.

    That’s what I was figuring… sounded more like you were into the mud puppies. I’ve never heard of anyone catching an eelpout below the dam so I was surprised when you mentioned how many you caught in one day. If you’re fishing minnows those mud doggies are all over you some days.
