Has anyone been out on 14 in the past few days, and if so, is the grass letting up now the the flow is decreasing? I’m hopefulling getting out with my father-in-law around Albany Tuesday morning, and could use any advise on finding the eyes out there. With a new baby this year, I have been out only once in the past months on the H20.. Gotta make the best of a one day free pass to the Miss

Thanks folks! ( and sorry for my absence on the page here, I’ll try to keep folks up on fall storms should we ever get rain down here ever again.)

i have a buddy that went out wed. night for a couple hours and he said he didn’t have too much trouble with grass. although he didn’t catch anything but a couple catfish on cranks. rooster had an earlier report from i think last weekend and he said he caught several fish pulling three-ways with rapala’s along current seams. with the river dropping it should be a fairly off bite. good luck.

I was out on Wedensday for a few hours and could not get anything going. Still a lot of grass then, but much less than the week before. I did not really give it enough time to find the fish. Spent too much time fishing where they where last week.
I think with the decreasing flow and dropping water, the wing dams in the Albany area could well be holding fish Tuesday. A lot depends on how much more reduction in flow we see by then. Fish could be out on the ends of wings by then, or if it flow is still fairly heavy, they may be on the inside ends or on lower flow dams. It is a transition game right now, with fish moving constantly in reaction to the changing river.
I’ll try to get some word before Tuesday and post what I hear. Probably won’t get out myself till the following weekend.

Any scoop from pool 14 over the weekend? I am thinking about hitting the water early monday morning in the Clinton area. Is the grass situation any better? If the grass is going to be a pain I made head up to Dubuque instead.

    Thanks for any info!

Don’t know about the grass. I’ve not been out in a week, but the fish should be puttin’ on the bag hard and heavy by now! Grass was not as bad last wed. as the week before, so hopefully it is going away! Good luck if you get out, let us know how you do!

    Skyguy,
I fished pool 14 Friday and Saturday with excellent results. However, with the light south east wind, the Iowa side was terrible with grass. The illinois side was fairly clear. However, our best spot was Iowa side, so we just stuck it out and tried to be patient. There is currently a west or southwest wind forecast for Tuesday, so most of the grass will be along the Illinois bank. This should be good for the Albany wing dams. Lots of walleye and white bass over the weekend.

Big Thanks Guys!!! I’m headed out in the morning, and have at this point, a pretty good hope for seeing some action out there, other than winning the grassmasters tournement.

Andy, good luck tommorow! I’ve heard from of few guys that the bite at the dam is starting to pick up vertical jigging, and wings are producing some nice walleyes as well. Jig/minnow, 3 waying stickbaits or live bait have all been effective at times. What I’ve heard is keep moving and you’ll get into some fish! Find the right current and depth combination and try to duplicate. Good luck again! I hope to get out later this week for a couple hours. Let us know how you do.

I got out Monday morning for a few hours and struggled to catch any quality fish. I tried to force feed them plastics without a lot of success. For me the ringworm, superdoo, sassy shad bite is not happening yet. I fished a few sandbars/flats without success. Also tried pitching to rip rap with no results. I ended up going up to the dam area and caught 8-10 small walleye and saugers along with a handful of white bass. The bite was not fast and furious for anyone it seemed, but the guys vertical jigging with minnows were outfishing me for sure. I’m too stubborn to take minnows with me and on Monday meat was the ticket for the most part. I keep thinking that the plastic bite should heat up any day now. By the way, the grass is still somewhat of a pain in the ___ still!

Tuesday on 14: We’ll it wasn’t my day for walleye I guess, and for the period from 8 am to 3 pm, it was a skunk of a trip out. (though the weather was nice asside from the brisk wind) We fished ringworms, jig/minnow, and wallydivers with nothing expect a couple good size bass taking them. Looked like nobody was doing that well, even at the dam while we were there. However, at 3 pm, we were thrown a bone from Ma-Nature as we cruised past seagulls feeding at the point of the wingdam across from the Clinton Marina. The next half hour saw non-stop wiper/white bass fishing on crankbaits. Most fish were in the 1 lb range, with a few over 2. They sure can make a slow day turn around for ya!!! The grass was an annoyance, but didn’t keep us from fishing any one particular area.
