Pool 12 report (?)

Well, I have been out on Pool 12 in Dubuque a couple times the past week. Sauger and Walleye have been slow for me in the high water and grass. The panfishing in the backwaters has been excellent. I have caught some of the biggest bluegills in my life on waxworms around cover. Crappie have been biting but I haven’t found the big girls yet. The water is so high everything seems accessible in the backwaters.
Anyway, is anyone else hitting pool 12? Anyone doing any better on Walleye and Sauger? If so, on what?

    Thanks

I am embarrased to say I haven’t had my boat out on pool 12 in a month. I have just been too-busy with family and a little early bow-hunting. I could have gone out this past weekend but I stayed home mainly because of the higher water and all the garbage floating down. I did have a good buddy head out on Saturday for a few hours. He fished wingdams and rip rap up near the lock and dam and ended up keeping 3 walleye and a couple nice saugers. He tells me eh has been catching 2 or 3 walleye each of the last 3 or 4 times he has been out. One-eyes are what he has been using. He tried pulling dbl rapalas but there is just too-much crap floating down. I might make it out this coming weekend at DBQ for a few hours. I am off work next week to bow hunt all week so no fishing then. Once I get bow hunting off of the brain I will begin to concentrate more on fishing again.

No kidding…too much going on. We broke ground on our new house about 6 weeks ago, I am ashamed to say that I haven’t had my boat in the water since June!!!

High gas prices don’t help much either.

Woodcock season is upon us and my setter is rarin’ to go. He lives for this time of year, as do I, so we will be away from the water a bit longer. From what I hear, trolling is impossible with all the debris. Hopefully, that is improving with each passing day. Heard of some folks doin’ alright at the floats at the 3 dams within the last couple of weeks. I have a week’s worth of vacation banked…I need to see if I can get Gianni or Rugbystar juiced up to help finance the gas to get us on pool 9…
