With the high water and my usual boat landing under water my six year old and I decided to fish the Upper Iowa river from the bank, this was about 2 miles upstream from the channel. I figured this could easily be as productive as the old Miss right now. Well here is a short recap.

Hey I got a big fish! Nope, Sorry Dad, It’s a snag! That’s ok, bring me your pole. Hmmmm, feels a little odd, as I carefully watch the line. Hey get back here you gotta fish on, and it’s pretty big. Now the fight is on, he’s work’n the trusty Zebco 404 like a
Veteran, but the fish just won’t show itself. I’m thinking foul hooked carp perhaps? After a short while, he has him worked into some shallow water and the fish rolls to the surface. Hey, bud you gotta walleye on there and it’s a beauty, don’t loose him now. The Cotton Cordell Wiggle “O” Stream Craw Bug (I just had to add that) had a good hold, and we slide him up in the shallow water. And here ya go. The little guy’s first 25+ walleye came in @ 5lbs 8oz
    (if the pic will post)

(root beer for him of course.)

That must have been exciting. Heck I was 30 years old before I got my first eye that size!

Landing a fish like that is a great feat at that age. You must have taught him well!

Super Walleye. The little guy is doing about as well as I have this year regarding 5LB plus walleyes. Kudos from Minnesota.

Wow! The look on his face really says it all! Landing an eye that size from shore took some real skill. Ya gotta be proud of him .
Great pic and story. I’d say you probably have him hooked for life!
