    All,
Talked my dad into meeting me on the river in REd Wing this sunday–I’ve only fished Pepin so far this summer, and ahven’t made it to Red Wing in a while. Has anyone been out there recently?? Any ideas or reports???

At least it will be gorgeous out! I’ll at least catch a tan

Go down to Pepin and fish the lake for crappies. The walleye bite in the river has been horribly slow. Crappies on the lake have been on a tear. Read Dustin Stewart’s fishing report for more details.

James is hit the nail on the head. Walleye have been very sporadic but the crappies have been more than willing to cooperate.
Good luck! Let us know how you do

Thanks a bunch guys, i can’t wait to get out–sounds like Pepin crappies it is! I went down with my girlfriend to the Hidden Falls park here in St Paul tonight—watched a sunset, and i caught a nice little walleye from shore on a jig–had a few huge spashes on a topwater too–kind of fun!

Crappies have clammed up on 4. I have heard of a great bullhead bite on Clear Lake,

That’s sad to hear Brian. I was so looking forward to seeing you and Linda next weekend but now I know why you won’t be making it up here. Good luck on Clear lake

The wife and I will be on the south end of the lake on Sunday, where are the areas that crappie fishing has been good. We are staying in Wabasha. Also would like to key in on some smallies. Any input would be appreciated.

    Zamer,
The whole rip-rapped shoreline on the Minnesota side from Camp Lacupolis to Maple Springs and beyond is a good bet.

I would start with a good search technique like casting a 1/32 or 1/64 oz.jig with a crappie sized twister/tube or mini-mite below a small bobber to locate active pods of fish. Then slow down and work the school once you find them with crappie minnows along with the usual crappie artificials.

I’ve caught lots of fish tight to shore in less than 2′ of water so don’t be afraid to work right up to the rocks. Last time I was out it was bright and sunny and noticed that a couple schools I found were in the shade being cast from the small clumps of trees along shore. Any irregularities you see in an otherwise straight stretch of rip-rap is always worth a look. Looks like we might finally get some fall like weather so good luck !
    Chris
