Havent had a chance to try the night bite yet but sounds like fun. My next trip to pool 2 is going to be a evening one and planning on trying the after dark action a little.
Can you elaberate on the sand current areas you found them on? What depths? I would think shallow at nite.
Spent sat. on the river in Aitkin. No fish. Not sure what happened there. The river is up a couple of feet from where it should be this time of year. Still lots of water headed this way.
Heading to redwing tommorrow for the day. Got a trip booked with james. This should be a good trip.
Hopefully I will make it back to pool 2 by this weekend.

Typically I look for sand areas that are real close to main current. Actually a nice current break around these areas is a huge plus. As far as depths go, they can be real shallow 2-5ft or considerably deeper 10-15ft. The area that I have fishing lately is a little on the deeper side.
The wingdams are a huge magnet too. These areas can congregate some very large fish this time of year. All areas on the front face of the wingdams should not be overlooked. The airport area has been a solid producer in the past for evening fish. Look for the current breaks and be patient. Catch a fish before dark? stick close to that area, because that is a sign that these fish are nearby and utilizing the surroundings. It pays to get out before the sun goes down and really look at area closely to pick the spots apart before you setup camp. Be careful out there as Pool 2 is littered with wingdams. One false steer and that could be the end of a night in a hurry. Bring a spotlight to identify the channel buoys.

    Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, Jig sizes……. I have been keeping several rods rigged with relatively the same offerings that my other rods have but I like to have a good selection of jig sizes tied up. If you feel you exhausted a school of fish to the point of not getting any more bites? Change up the size and give a little different drift speed to your bait and you would be surprised how that can make a difference.
