I saw a lot of guys in the dam area (for the short period of time I was their) doing the jign’ minnow thing getting a lot of smaller fish. I also saw a few boats 3-waying with cranks or rigs. Just wondering if any of you guys did any thing on 3-ways and cranks this weekend??

Hey Dustin, I was out Sunday morning with Jon J. He had a crankbait on almost all the time, no fish were put in the boat with the cranks, except for the line I snagged that had a sauger hanging onto an old style # 9 rapala black and white. Take care.

I will be out pulling cranks this thursday.same tactics starting out at the damn, and I want to fish the lake head later, I’ll send in a report Friday. Looks like you guys are doing pretty good pitchn plastic.
November 8, 2002 at 6:16 pm #247782Hey bigpike, I remember ya’. I pulled 3-ways and cranks the other day with a 1oz jig and kalin tail for a dropper(same as a Dubuque rig). I ended up getting all of my better fish on the dropper with the Kalin tail, the smaller fish came on the cranks for me.
Just wondering how you ended up doing on your outing Thursday??
November 8, 2002 at 6:59 pm #247785Hey Dustin.
I happen to know your mom and work at the Hospital in Charles City. Good to see a local “boy” doing what he loves. We were at the dam with 3-ways and had good success with 25-30 eater size saugers caught using just a minnow and colored hook. We had the best luck with a floater just ahead of the hook. Also tried cranks with no success for about an hour. Biggest sauger was a 19 incher. We then headed down stream and caught 3 nice 4 to 5 pound walleyes to finish the day. Had a great time and hope to get back up to the river before the boat goes to storage. OUT… Captain Anchor.
November 8, 2002 at 11:34 pm #247795Thanks for the report Captain Anchor. Sound like you had a pretty good day on the Ol’ Miss.
Since you know my Mom, you more than likely know whatever she says about me is not going to be true, unless it’s all good of course(it has to be)….oh yeah and tell her I said HI!

Nothing but praise out of your mom. I am new to all this talk of ringworms and kalin tails. I have however been checking your old reports from last year. Seems you guys were having better success with ringworms last year at this time. Any insight as to why the kalins are working better this year? I have been down to Nashua on the ol’ Cedar and have caught a few walleyes on ringworms but have not had success with the bigger twisters, they are only hitting the smaller 2 or 3 inch variety. I have caught a few 3 pounders on the ringworms. I will keep you posted on the Cedar bite. I live right on the river up by Floyd so I have good chances to get out. Hopefully with Christmas a new digital camera will arrive from Santa and we can show off some of the nice smallmouth and walleyes that can be had on small river fishing. Thanks for all the good reports. Thanks again for the tip…..Bill P.S. pretty much decided that this will be the fall to master the crank bite so I will be sticking with that but all this talk of kalins and big wallys is starting to get me thinking!!!
