Anyone been on the upper part of pool 4 lately? Dad and I are going to hit it hard Saturday. Hopefully not get run over by the pleasure cruisers.

Good luck on your trip. there should not be too many Pleasure boats out there, some tho, nothing like a few months ago. take your rain gear. Call Dean at Evert’s, if anything is going on on the river, He will know about it.
let us know how you do.

Good numbers but not much for size. I’ll be on the upper part of the pool on Saturday, so I’m itchy to see what Dean has to say as well!
September 8, 2005 at 5:26 pm #382781The bite has still been a bit sporadic. No big fish for my boat on the last 3 trips . In a full day of fishing, 6 to 12 legal walleye has been the norm on the last couple of trips with some shorts in the mix. Cranks have prevailed on most days. Have not done much with bait on the last couple of outings…..meaing I have not fished it. Cranking and covering water has been my best presentation.
Good luck and let us know how you guys do
September 12, 2005 at 7:36 pm #383485I spent most of last week on lower pool 4 and found a few cooperative walleye casting crankbaits on the wingdams and rockpiles. The largest greenie was just under 24″ and was released. We did keep several walleye between 15″ and 20″ to eat. All the walleye I caught were on cranks. One of the guys in our party caught a couple on live bait (crawlers) but most of the fish caught were caught using cranks. Blue jointed Shad Raps seemed to be the hot ticket.

It wasn’t a great trip, but we did catch fish and had fun doing it despite the ever present wind. We caught a lot of sauger 15 to 18″ and a few keeper walleyes in the same size, and of course the usual white bass. Only had one actively feeding school of whites on Friday and that was it. We did catch a number of fish down stream from The Pickle Factory with the most unusual being a huge Bluegill that attacked a #7 shad-rap. Never saw that before. My wife figured out that if you twich the rod tip while trolling at 2 mph she could entice a number of fish to bite. Interesting , I guess that she figured that out by trying to get a fly off of the rod tip. Only problem on the whole trip was the new Yamaha T-8 wouldn’t run except with the manual choke on frusterating.
Hope to be up there again in a few weeks and try it again. Maybe we’ll take some pics then and try to post themSeptember 20, 2005 at 7:36 pm #385063I took my Uncle out on Sunday and we caught a couple of walleyes on leeches, but overall pretty slow.
September 22, 2005 at 1:45 am #385409Dustin and I both guided today…. slow indeed. All the fish we caught came on light jigs and crawlers. Most of the fish came from the backwaters fishing the timber and we also had a handful from the main channel near the resort.
The bass fishing is decent. A few pike can be found with a little digging and crappies have actually been solid to excellent. Walleyes have been tough and will remain tough until we get some cooler weather.
Don HansonPosts: 2073September 23, 2005 at 12:34 pm #385640James, how is the water clarity on the upper end of the pool?
September 23, 2005 at 5:29 pm #385695Don,
The water looks very dirty right now, at least it did on Wed. 2″ to 3″ visibility. It’s been like that on/of all summer. Come Sunday and the early part of the week the water is always dirtier from the big boats .
