Our fishing club headed to pool 3 for our monthly outing this weekend. Overall it turned out to be a tough time. I thought I’d head to Buffulo slough in the morning. there was only one other boat there, and many duck hunters, ( not many ducks tho). I didn’t have any time to prefish so was going cold turkey. found nothing in buff. slough, went into brewer’s slough finally got one 16 sauger on a 4 in. ringworm, just hammered it. that was it for that spot, went up river a few miles, should have tried a few wing dams but I was getting impatient. I radioed a club member and he had nothing trolling up the wisc shoreline. by 2 pm we headed back to the boat ramp put the boat back on trailer and drove up to the hastings ramp to fishing the dam area. first ten minutes landed a 17 sauger and a 21 in. walleye on jig and minnow. I radioed the other club boats (only 4 total, 8 fisherman) and they heard up to the dam also. two boats fished the prescott area for awhile, they were catching some fish, including 1 18 in.sauger, but had to work for what they caught. after I had a limit with the jig and minnow, I put on a ringworm and still caught fish. the fish were not timid on the bites, they were just crushing it. I finished with about 15 fish, 11 of which were over our club minimums, the two nicest saugers were each 18 inches, all fish released. biggest thing I think made the difference was keeping in bottom contact at all times, if current was too tough and pulled a bait too far off the bottom, you were out of the fish zone. Our next and last outing of the year is pool 4, can’t wait to get in some time there in the next couple of weeks, IT HAS been TOO long. see you on the water. Jack.
