Had a good day on the river Saturday. Started off running three ways and jigging the head of the lake. Picked up a few small eyes in 9 to 11 ft of water. As the wind picked up we opted for the backwaters, again we had a few smaller eyes hit our jigs. By late afternoon we decided to check out the action up river. Caught small sauger by the Vermillon before making our way up to the dam. The area by the dam produced both eyes and sauger. Again in these area we were running 3 ways with floaters and plain hooks and throwing jigs. The jig bite seemed to be the ticket, the most and biggest fish came on 1/4 ounce chart/orange Knuckleball jigs.
See ya on the water, Don

I was up near the dam also. Pitching jigs to the shoreline in the afternoon was unproductive. I saw some good catches up by the dam on sonars to. Overall though I thought the size in general was small. Some nice fish were caught though. Towards evening I made a run downriver and got into a bunch of nice eyes pitching plastics to the shallows which made up for the poor afternoon. Hopefully things will only get better from here.

I too fished up by the dam on Sat. A lot of small fish. I did see two caught in the 2 to 3 lb area. I tried ringworms but the jig and minnow seemed to work better. From about 10 to noon the walleyes really moved in. But once again most were small, in the 14 to 14 1/2 in. range. For the day I probably caught 20 to 25 fish, so it was just great to be out.

The word is that these are considerably larger than what you usually catch

Oh sure, throw that in my face. I was really proud of them. Why do you think they call me LITTLE HOOK?

I know a guide on a pristine northern lake(Verhalla) that could help change that “Little Hook” nom de plume in a couple of hours. His name is Mitch!
