dave were u fishing from a small camoflage boat? I think i saw you I was fishing from shore at fort snelling next to pike island.

Fishing was slow for me, i caught a sucker, a smallmouth, 3 sheepshead a white bass, but they all were about ten inches. and a 6 pound dog fish that just swallowed my reefrunner.

Made it down there for a couple of quick trips last weekend. Spent most of the time around lillydale and the confluence. There seems to be a light trolling bite going on at the confluence. Nothing great but a few fish to be caught there.

We also managed a few fish off of wingdams and structure. Nothing happening real fast hear either it was fish.

Looks like water levels have come up a little in the last few weeks. Hope that continues for awhile.

Hit the river for a few hours this morning. The flow rate right now is about 14000, which is the highest it’s been for awhile. I fished 10 wingies, found 3 holding fish, but I only got one off of each one. Well, technically a total of two- I lost a very large eye (I saw it) over 25″, but did land a 25″r, and a 19″r. Casting firetiger jointed shad rap. Water temp was 68.5. I tried trolling some rip rap with no luck other than a silver. Caught a few silvers off the wingies too.

I guess a 16′ Alumacraft is a small boat these days on the river.. But not as small as the older gentalman with the 12′ jon boat with the bimini top being pushed by a 2 hp? Merc through all the cruisers and barges on sunday.

Yes my boat is camo.. darker green colored, and the hood of the Johnson is Camo also. If anyone see’s me out there, dont be afraid to say hi.

Fishing was still decent out there yesterday, but short lived. No large fish yesterday, we got 6 fish with the larger 2 in the low 20″ class, and a 15″ sauger thinking it was tough grabbing my #9 gold shad rap. Areas with smaller gravel on the shoreline seem to be key. The heavier flow and debris(leaves, etc) made it a bit more difficult to fish.

    Mike Did you say something?

I think it is legal to keep fish off of pool 1. Just dont bring them down to pool 2. If I remember right you are not to be in possesion of game fish on pool 2. You should be able to lock up from pool 1 and get out of there.

Can you keep eyes out of P1? If so I would think it may be an issue locking them back to a P2 boat landing. Thoughts?

I honestly dont have the answer to this. It is a good question however.

My boat doesnt do 100 mph, or have a 50 gallon tank.. If I was going to fish to keep eyes in lower pool 1(just above ford dam for example)… I am sure not going to launch 10 miles upstream and go through 2 locks to launch at Boom Island, I would launch at watergate or Hidden falls.

I ASSUME it is legal to transport fish on pool 2 that are caught in other legal areas.. but I wouldnt even think of dropping a line in pool 2 if I had walleyes in posession. Either way, I am sure it would at least turn into an interrigation by a C.O.

I have been shore fishing on pool 1 for the walleyes… so I havent had to consider the thought of transporting them through pool 2.

Boom island is not that far is it? I thought there was also just one set of locks at saint athony falls also. Any way you are right. Might not be worth the effort to keep fish out of one. There are plenty of walleyes above saint anthony falls where you would be putting the boat in at anyways.
That reminds me. I need to get after some of those eyes up that way.

There are 2 locks/dams at St Anthony falls.. upper and lower. There are not many fishing opportunities between the 2 locks because they will not let you go below the upper dam, or any of the backwaters on the opposite side of the river by boat… its common sense because there is some shallow water and rock piles.. and the lower dam is only a couple hundred yards down in heavy current.. any problems and it will be an exciting ride fast. There are plenty of walleyes between the lower St Anthony falls dam, and the Ford dam… it is not a pressured section of river, and is well worth learning.

It is a haul to go from Boom island to the ford dam and you have to add about 40 minutes of locking time if you are going to go through all 3.

Water seems to be up around 3 feet, higher than it’s been in months…. Water temp has dropped to the lower 60’s…

I’ve been working way too much this year, I haven’t been on the water in weeks but I plan to hit 2 sometime soon.

The Sealegs made it out on Sat evening on the upper portion of 2. The white bass were in full force entertaining the shore fisherman. as the sun hit the tree tops we picked up 7 walleyes in about an hours time the biggest being 23 inches. We were trolling shadraps in 5-9 ft.

I would love to get into some of that shore action on the white bass. Where would one access that part of the river if they were fishing from shore?

I think they enter in on the lower hiddenfalls entrance. look for the steep rip rap north of the marina and sit on the point. have some fun, hope the weather doesnt move them to far!
