Hey guys/gals. Planning my first trip (of the fall) to Guttenburg this Saturday. Does anybody have a report? Have the saugers moved upto the tailwaters yet? What presentations have been working? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just checked the river stage projections for that area… she’s really coming up!

Here’s the forecast for Thursday – Monday:

    Wed – 8.54 Rise of 0.79′ last 24 hours.
    Thursday – 9.2
    Friday – 9.8
    Saturday – 10.3
    Sunday – 10.7
    Monday – 11.0

Doesn’t mean the fish won’t be biting… just means that the river is changing from one day to the next as the river levels rise. The deeper water, vertical jigging sauger bite is likely out of the question. Pitch the shorelines or any other slower/slack water you can find!

The level at Hastings is 8 feet and climbing throughout the week. In a “Typical” year, which this is anything but…we would be enjoying levels of around 4.5 to 5′. The water would be much clearer, and easier to fish. Hence my move to Mille Lacs next week! Give her a couple of weeks, and we will see what happens. Just an FYI, the Vermillion in Hastings is up to it’s banks, we are sending it down to all you Pool 4 guys, so get ready!

There is a TON of grass flowing through pool 10 right now, so I’m sure it’s got to be nasty through guttenberg too. With the water on the riseI’m sure it won’t be any better anytime soon.

    Good luck

I FISHED BELOW THE DAM AT GUTTENBERG YESTERDAY. CAUGHT ONLY A FEW WALLEYE AND SAUGER. MOSTLY DRUM AND WHIE BASS. CURRENT WAS HEAVY WITH LOTS OF VEGETATION HANGING UP ON THE LINE. USED JIGS AND SONARS. 3-WAYS FOULED UP VERY QUICKLY WITH ALL THE VEGETATION.
