With the colder weather, if it stays, things should start to turn on. When prefishing with Nate we had 18 plus pounds going and had about 5 spots going. Then Monday we had 80 degrees and 70s on Tues. and our early fall bite fish moved big time and couldn’t be relocated. Cranks, 3-ways with live bait and jigs will all take fish. Fish the current breaks and you should do fine. There is one more big tournament on the river coming which is the MWC Championship Tournament in Prarrie de Chen, Wisc. Yes, it is time to get out and catch some of those fall fish. Please feel free to post how you do. Thanks, Bill

With the water projected to rise again significantly, continue to look off the main channel for the best bite. Side channels, sloughs, and cuts gave up many of the bigger bags in the tourney and with the water coming up, that won’t change.

Fish livebait very slowly. Give fish a chance to see a bait 3, 4 times and and give the impression of an easy meal that can’t be turned down. 3-ways pulled into the current with leeches, crawlers, or one of the top baits from the tourney, large chubs, will work well. Light jigs hovered, not actually jigged, just above the bottom, will work well. Try plain hair too. Hover these jigs just above the bottom…. pause, then hop them-snap them a short distance… than hover again.

And my favorite for larger fish, when fish are found a bit more aggressive, pitch small shad style cranks to rip rap… or large plastics like 5″ kalin tails, to imitate the shad schooling in these areas.

Just a few ideas. This is a fun, but typically inconsistent, time of year.
