Hey I don’t see anyone talking about one of my favorite pools for fall walleye and sauger fishing, when is the best time to try, I usually try around the third week in October around the full moon. Are they smacking already? I did very good Monday morning on the Chippewa River but with the goofy size limit (nothing between 14-18) it kinda takes away from the good eaters. It was alot of fun, No Muskies taking my soaked sucker meal but its early and the great fall fishing is all ahead. Good Fishing!! Bill

Hey bigpike, You must have been fishing above the EauClaire dam on the
Chippewa. Please feel free to post how you do on the Chippewa on the Wisconsin River
section. I’m gonna go out tonight and try it if it’s not raining. Gota catch me a sturgeon.
I’ll post tomorrow. With the tournament (RCL) happening thats why it’s kinda quite on Mississippi.
You want to get together sometime on the Chippewa? Steve

your not going to hear any pros talking about pool 3 – 4 much right now… with the tourney going on……. but its been a tough bite anyway… we are on the verge of the good bite… and when this tourny ends on saturday… give it a week or so… then it should be good to go…… pool 2 is where the action is…. and the croix is kickin out some too…..

The pool 3- 4 bite is great but there will be boats every where so it wont be to much fun unless you like rideing waves all day long.
Good Luck To All In RCL

still dont know how “great” the bite on pools 3-4 right now…. out of 220 pro boats only 35 came in with 5 fish…. the rest came in with less… including a number of zeros…. but it should be great soon…. I would think… I fished there last friday….

The bite at the dam has improved dramatically in the last week. Specifically since last Saturday…..figures, huh Rivereyes? You were here Friday and the bite picked up Saturday. The “dam sauger bite” had been really slow at the dam and then all of a sudden a group of 5 people brought in 30 of em Saturday. Since then, it has been getting better each day. 10-12 feet with 3-ways and minnows has been the best bait. Sonars are also startaing to work pretty good as well. These fish right now are on the smaller side. Lots of 8-12 inch fish being caught with the average fish being kept running about 14-16 inches and there are a few bonus 20 inch sauger coming in. The majority of these fish are saugers, but there are a few walleyes mixed in with em. Once the “big boys” quit playing for money, there will be a lot more detailed info, i’m sure! Good Luck to all.

The key word was WERE! I was with Pat Cavins and he got a big old zero on day one, Im sure he cried his way to sleep last night. He came in just shakeing his head he couldnt believe the boats anchored everywhere he was 5th from last on the way out but will be 5th today so hopefully he will have a better chance at getting the spot.
    Im praying for him! LOL

wow… thats quite a coincidence… I was with jamie Friebel… and he got zeroed too… but I did not hear why… no doubt the same reason your talking about…. sounds like they should have went to the dam!…. and at least scored a few… maybe they could have gleaned enough for middle of the pack and a chance at today!……
think I will stay away while the tourney is going….. fishing with over 200 pro level boats on the water is a tough propostion……. if I get out it will be pool 2 or the croix….. much smarter than bashing my head against THAT wall…..

Prefishing was great until Monday rolled around and we had 80 degrees and 70s on Tuesday and guess what happened to the early fall patterns? Everything changed big time. Thats early fall fishing though. Here one day and can be gone the next and they were gone.
