I keep reading about walleyes and clam beds. How do you find a clam bed?

I am new to this sport and have a lot to learn.

    Thanks

The way I found out where a couple are is to ask the local commercial fishermen.

I don’t know how else you would locate them. I would appreciate any other info also. I just started walleye fishing last year and the learning curve seams to be a long one.

fish The only way that I have found them in the past is by catching the clams or the old shells, I have been able to tell the difference between the jig rolling over the bottom and then hitting the shells

Couple ways I have located them.

    1. When the water is low in the late fall and winter, you can see clam beds along the shore. Fish them when the water is up in the spring. Also, clam beds will extend from the shore area out into the main channel from those spots.

    2. Jigging along the main channel and either snag onto a shell or have a live one clampp down on your jig. If there is one, there is a very good chance there are many more in that area. Make a mental note of the location.

Basically, time on the water will give up the locations…..
