Went out Saturday with my son on the upper part of Pool 2. Most of the walleye were in the 7-12″ size but we were able to land 17-19 and 22″ eyes. I have attached a photo of the 22″ eye that my son caught. He was trying out his new rod and reel and was a happy camper because he outfished his Dad. Oh Ya! I heard about it all the way home….I’ll get him next time.

Nice fish there lil Brad
You just keep up making memories with the ol man !!
I really have taken a liking to that pool……
September 22, 2002 at 3:30 pm #246349I made it out by the airport in st paul friday afternoon. Most of the eyes i caught where 10 to 15″. I did put one 25″ in the boat also. The fish seem to be hitting pretty good there right now. I cleaned out my minnow bucket in about two hours. Not bad for not even knowing that strech of river.
Good luck fishing
September 22, 2002 at 3:39 pm #246351geeez Mike… how come ya didnt hit the good ol Croix? I tried to launch there the other day… at franconia… trailer problems prevented me from getting the boat off.. unless I back WAY out.. and I decided to not try that… something about having all 4 wheels in the water.. and water running over my bank bumper that just kind of spooked me……
but pool 2.. now I know that stretch pretty well…. fished it for years and years…..September 22, 2002 at 9:51 pm #246356Hey Mike. 25″? I’ll have to take the kid there and see if we can up the size a bit for him. Then I’ll really never hear the end of it! Did you get to take any pics of your catch? If so post them. It would be great to see more catches posted.
September 23, 2002 at 2:47 pm #246360that first wingdam out in front of the pigs eye plant intake is the hottest one for big fish… ya almost gotta be the first to hit it though…. its usually good for at least ONE nice fish….. and a couple of others…..
September 23, 2002 at 2:58 pm #246362Yeah, those wingies can turn on at different times of the day. It seems as though these fish patrol the areas and come up to feed on top or the sides when the opportunity arises or they get hungry.
Now that the waters levels have calmed down the wingies will only get better. I plan to spend my time now unitl mid December chasing wingdam fish. This is when big fish will be taken during the day and AT NIGHT!!Here is a picture of my neighbor with his 25″ fish. If you look at the backround. This area just south of the airport has given up many nice fish in the past several weeks with lots of bonus fish to boot, white bass, sheepies, smallies, pike and a few cats!!
This is my favorite time of the year. I wish it would last forever.
September 23, 2002 at 3:14 pm #246363Sorry no pictures. I am thinking of picking up a digital camera for the boat.
I did pick up a couple in front of pigseye. That was the only spot I have been to before. There was a good school of sheepies on it. There where some old WW2 planes flying in and out of the airport that day. It was pretty neat seeing a big bomber bearing down on you while while i am trying to haul in some fish.
The discharge from pigeye was holding a good number of fish. Couldnt hardly even get the jig to the bottom there for awhile.Front tires in the water is the norm for me also at fronconia. I am glad there is a good hard bottom there. Put in there yesterday afternoon.
I am thinking about flipping the axel on the trailer to above the leef springs so i dont have to back so far out there.Good luck fishing
September 23, 2002 at 3:21 pm #246364Thanks for the post and pic DeeZee, RiverEyes and Mike. I will definitely have to get out to the wingdams again. Sounds like there really turning on.
