customrodfan,
I am already seeing good signs of the fall to come. In the next couple of weeks the big plastic and crank bite shallow will improve. Mid sept on in to the beginning of oct are what I would call a turnover period on the river. The fish are all over doing a lot of different things. Patterns found one day are more apt to be gone the next day instead of holding on for a longer period of time. Sept is always an iffy month on the river, rock-um sock-um robots one day and the next day will be the worst fishing in the world.
From the beginning of Oct thru the beginning of November when the water temps fall in to the low 60’s to lower 50’s we will see a great shallow water bite on big plastics cranks and hair with every day having it moments of one presentation.
When the water temps fall in to the high 40’s the crank bite will dwindle to not so reliable, it will be predominately plastics and hair for me from then on out until Spring.
The major part of this whole concept is to stay in 10′ of water or less, this is were most all of my bigger fish will be taken. Most will be pulled out of 1′ to 3′ of water along the river banks.
Good shallow water fall fishin’!
