Jon J and I ventured out in his river boat for an evening on our home pool. This turned out to be a very good choice. We started out working a couple of wing dams and the first fish we hit was a double on striped bass. After a couple of passes we anchored to work the area a bit more. Picked up a few more bass and I caught a bonus channel cat that was around 4 lbs. We moved to another wing dam and pulled a few small walleyes and sauger from it. Tried a few other spots and found more small fish but Jon did hit a nice sauger around 18″ and a channel cat that was probably 4lbs or so. We did work a couple of spots that produced quite a few smallmouth bass much to our surprise. Current breaks was the key. Everything was going well till dark. Then the Mn. state bug decided it was feast time and we paid the price to stay a bit more but the relentless swarm had us heading for the dock. Another very enjoyable time on the water.

    Dino,

Sounds like another blood donation evening last night? When they come out to play, they bring the entire team thats for sure?

Was out a couple mornings ago and popped a couple nice fish off the wing dams as well. Big plastics was what was working for me then. The cranks turned a little smaller fish that morning.

Here is a pic from a 25 incher that made it to the boat. I had a 27″+ fish on that wrapped herself around a stump and used the log as leverage to pop the jig off. Rats!!

    Thanks for the update Dino!

Fun night to be out. It’s real fun going into places with the flat bottom jon that I’d never get close to in the Yarcraft!

DeeZee, thanks for the pointer in the big plastics. I only half heartedly tossed ringworms for a short period of time. The cranks put a bunch of fish in the boat, just not a lot of size.

Yes, I got a 25hp Mercury. (Long shaft, tiller, electric start) And yes, I’m zipping around a lot faster than with the 8hp! The 25 trolls down pretty good too. So far I’m real happy with the motor!

Now a plug for LaCannes who supports this site….

Picked ‘er up from LaCannes Marine. (And guys, LaCannes don’t know me from Joe Blow) Just called around to all the Merc Dealers here in the TC and found the motors $200-$300 more than LaCannes. And that’s IF they had one in stock! LaCannes had one ready to go. Well worth the 1 hour drive from St Paul.

    Hey Jon…

sounds like we might need to race for pink slips! I may need to get a nitro kit on my 15hp.

    Dave,

I still think your 12 footer with a 15hp is a little faster than my 14 with a 25hp. Not to mention all the other stuff I have added to weigh it down, like carpeted wood floor, seats, battery, 6 gallon gas tank. And goodies like rod holders, running lights, flasher and trolling motor.
