My dad and I fished the pooh bear tourney today and there was a great turnout. Fishing was rough today since we were targeting bigger fish. With the rain and wind it turned into a pretty miserable day. The trolling bite was good for the 15-16″ fish from what we saw, but no bigger fish were put in our boat by this method. There is a great abundance of Drum(sheephead) in the lake right now. At about 8:30 this morning I boated a 5lb 10oz. fish (pictured). This would be our last big fish of the day. I caught this fish on a 1/16 Chart. jig with a leech casting to riprap. Earlier this week I caught a 3lb. 8oz. fish on this same structure. Numbers were not good but the size has been up there. The water temp is about 68 degrees right now and the fish are agressive. I expect the bite will get very good in the upcoming week providing the weather becomes stable. Good luck to all. Just a side note the top weight for the Pooh Bear was about 30lbs. with a 12lb. big fish for the tourney.

Interesting side note on the 5lb’er. When we went to get him out of the livewell he had spit up about an 8 inch drum. I guess we don’t have to worry about using too big a bait. Pooh Bear was a great Tourney as usual. Well run and a great meal afterwards. They could have ordered a little better weather though.

The Sealegs made its annual journey down to pool 4 from pool 2 to fish the Pooh Bear. That tourney has been alot of fun for us over the years. I never have entered another tourney are there others of this caliber every weekend down there?

Do you know what any of the other techniques were that were catching the fish. There sure were a lot of big weights from what I heard, and lately everyone has been saying the bite has been pretty slow. It must be just coming into the hot bite of summer.

I did not hear of many other techniques working but we were targeting BIG fish. I heard that the winners of the Port of caul tourney were three-waying live bait. But thats about all I’ve heard.
