Any word on what the walleye and sauger bite around Winona is like? I am heading up there for a week, and I am going to hit the river.

I’ve been having some decent success trolling wing dams and shore lines on 5A. Gotta sort through the shorties but at least it’s putting fish in the boat. Have caught the bigger fish casting cranks on the wing dams. Good luck.

where here is what I know, bring leeches and 3 ways, both under the 5a dam and 5 dam, they have been doing real well slow dragging leeches in about 5-10 ft of water(hint). crankin is getting better but with all the cold rain, you really seem to have to put it down in 12-20 ft of water and do it slow. the flow is almost back to normal levels and the smallies are starting to set up on the points of shallow bays, the water temp is 52-54 degrees on the main, and add a few degrees for the backwater. if your coming to go cranking look at sandy hook, pool 5a, ive heard they have been doing fairly well there. good luck and let me know how you do, I wont get out this weekend I have a southeastern minnesota police tournement that I am in near wabasha and I will be prefishing up there for that.

Thanks for the info–I don’t usually see much from the Winona area on here. The COE is projecting a slow rise in the water levels around there over the next few days. Not great for fishing, but not terrible either, as it is pretty low right now.

    That goes without saying.

When I lived in Winona, this was the time of year when the eyes moved downstream and started hitting live bait on the wing dams, so that is what I will be doing.
