Got out on Pepin for a day of fishing with Crossin’ on Saturday. Decided to stay at the bottom of the lake knowing the top was going to be very pressured. It was a good choice even though the catching wasn’t phenominal. We boated quite a few shorts, two eater class fish and of course the mixed bag of sheepers, whiteys and smallies. We got one nice 24″ fish, easily surpassing the 5lb mark. She looked like a fall Mille Lacs eye. I’ve got a pic on my phone, but can’t seem to get it downloaded. I’ll try to post asap.

We trolled all day, working 8 – 12 FOW. Blue was the ticket. For all you pike guys, we had 3 bite offs, darn near sink the board, then nothing. So if you want pike, target the water shallower than 8 feet along any rip/rap shoreline.

    good luck!!

Here is a pretty crappy photo of the one decen fish we caught on Saturday. The camera phone works OK, but I’m not going to win any contests with it. I hate taking the digital out in the rain, so this had to do.

I’ve got several comments that would be inappropriate for this family site. So here is to you cheeseheads: You’re lucky I’ll stoop low enough to fish with someone from Packer nation.

Ouch! That would imply that I even LIKE the Packers! Ouch! That really hurts.

All that I know, is it would have been good to be on the bank with binoculars watching the cluster @#$% that unfolds when you to goof balls get together to fish .

Anyone been out on Pepin this week? Was wondering if the trolling bite was starting to pick up at all at the head of the lake?

Slow is the word I keep hearing on the trolling bite. Slow-slow-slow. You can catch a bunch of small fish but legals have been hard to come by.

3-ways and crawlers have been bets for me.

Len and I went out yesterday. Started by Bay City Flats, and worked up stream. Hit some of his spots. Very nice to be out, but the river wasn’t real cooperative. Ended up w/ 4 Walleyes and 1 Striper. 3 of the Eyes came on 3 ways with #7 Raps. Other came drifting w/ a crawler. Kinda chilly for this time of year. Water temp was 52.
