I was fishing pool 9 yesterday and noticed alot of fisherman using stringers. I thought stringers went out a long time ago. I have herd stories about fisherman loosing there days catch from one mistake. I use a Cooler!

Slick, what was biting yesterday up on 9? I haven’t seen many reports from that direction.

Coolers or a livewell filled with ice. Much easier to fillet and much less blood.

Livewell for now, since I got one, cooler if I am using the flat bottom.

Pool 9 isnt setting the world on fire right now as far as ‘eyes go. The perch and gills are starting to bite. Wipers should start up feircly soon, and as soon as the water comes down a bit more…look out!

Stringers put alot of stress on fish and usually kill them fast. The eating quality of the fish deteriorates rapidly.
If you are gonna kill em put em on ice in a cooler…just like the commercial fishermen do.

Until about 4 years ago…I didn’t know of any other method except a stringer. I’ve lost fish to turtles, coons, and forgeting the fish were in the water and going too fast with them outside the boat. Today (mostly because of IDA) I would be using a cooler if I didn’t have a live well.

Our guide in FL was telling me about fishing for sea trout out of a boat similar to a 12 foot flat bottom. Had a stringer of fish hanging over the side. The back of the boat was yanked under water by a shark…twice. He hasn’t used a stringer since.

The fishing was slow but my brother was able to boat 4 nice eyes. Trolling was the method by far. Three way! The water was dropping but the current was still moving. The water was clearing. Hope this helps!
