I have a question about 4 stroe outboards. I have a 50 horse yamaha and it is very queit above the water. I have to realy listen to hear the motor. Are they still pretty noisy below the surface? I would think position fishing shallow with this unit would still spook fish. Any thoughts?

I own a 60 horse Yamaha and asked the dealer that question when I bought it. He stated that below the water they are quieter than a 2 stroke but he could not tell me how many db lower than a 2 stroke. I asked him to find out and he never got back to me. However I troll for lake trout in the spring in Canada every year when the fish are very close to the surface. Personally I believe it spooks the fish less than a 2 stroke does as you idle through them, but I can’t back that observation up with hard facts in any way. For shallow position fishing I would use a trolling motor to keep position if at all possible.
