I read Dustin’s fine report from the 8th! ANyone have anything more recent? Wondering if this
“frigid” air will or has had a positive effect on the Pepin or Pool 4 walleye bite? Planned on hitting it with in the
next couple of days! Heck if your down there we could all compare notes, narrowing down
    the bite?

    Keep the rods bendin’!!!

Thank’s Dustin for your recent report! Can you give general locations( a tad more specific??LOL)
I am headin’ out this evening to give her a whirl. I plan on putting in the upper part of Pepin. Any ideas
    or suggestions from there people?

On Saturday, I fished the points along the Mn side just up stream from Lacupolis. We found a few active smallies
on the break in 9-11 feet. We did the vertical thing there. We trolled the flats out around Deer Island as well, picking up
    only one small walleye.

We then head down below Camp Lacupolis and found the white bass to be INCREDIBLE! This is NO exageration, we caught 20-
25 whities in 15-20 minutes with only one under 12 inches and 4-5 measuring out at 16 inches! True Brutes! We got them casting
1/6 oz. Rooster tails, color didn’t seem to make a difference! These fish were herding the minnows tight up against shore, at times, surfacing right next to
the boat! Talk about fun! We ended the evening trolling the flats straight out from the Camp with only one 13 incher!

PS> Does anyone know what people are fishing for right up on the Wisconsin bank at Lacupolis?
I swear they are anchored in 2-3 feet, casting towards shore. I see them every time down there!
Could it be walleye, bass? There is very little current and the bank is gradual and all sand!

Help me out here. I hate to drive up on them when they are “in to it”,possibly spooking fish.

Thanks for your time people and if your out there this evening, you’ll probably see me!

Jim, I have a house trailer at Camp Lacupolis. I’ll be up Saturday at the get together at Evert’s. Talk to you then.

    Jim,

I would love to more specific, I think I will go ahead and post the GPS coordinates right here….J/K!

I have heard reports of guys getting in on some good smallie action in the area you speak of Jim. When the water gets high and the boat traffic is awful a lot of bait fish get pushed up in to the willows on the WI side in that area. The fish will take advantage of this easy to feed situation.

If you are looking for spots on the upper end move up in to the main river and give it a go. look for the kinds of places I described in my report and you should be on fish.

See you at the get together, and good luck!

    Thanks Dustin and Leo!!!!

Unfortunately, I won’t be at the gathering. A long story, but a good one. Taking my father out in my
new boat. He has been recooperating from Giahn Beret’e(sp?). ANd getting him on the water in a less crowded
area will best suit the situation.

I was really looking forward to meeting a ton of you people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am usually fishing somewhere, so if any one is interested, we could hook up, stream, lake or river!!!

PS> I’ll let everyone know how I do tonight! Probably in for some more hot WHite BAss action!!!

Well I found a few nice walleyes! After work, I picked up a good friend for a “quickie” on Pepin!

I had located a spot a couple weeks ago that held some smallie and last evening it held some walleye!

It was on the SOuth end of Pepin on the MN side! It was a point that topped out at 10 with varied drops down!
Our hit to catch ratio wasn’t very good! We only landed 4 walleyes with 7-8 missed fish! However, the walleyes were
decent. A 22, 20, 18 and a 16 incher. ALl caught on 1/8 oz green chart jigs tipped with a leech!

I simply worked slowly, up and down the point, keeping things as vertical as possible. The first fish a 2o incher came only
    2-3 minutes after arriving!

After it slowed we tried trolling the flats at Lacupolis with 0 success! There were 5-6 boats that appeared to be jigging, but I saw
    no nets.

Thanks for your time and have fun at the get to gether!!!

Jim, sorry to hear you wont be at the get together. Was hoping to talk to you about the fishing around Lacupolis. If your down that way and see a old fat guy in a 16ft. blue Lund Pro-V with a black Suzuki 4-stroke, stop by and say hello. Where those white bass feeding at Reads Landing?

No they were just down from the Camp on the MN side. There is a very nice current break where they have been stacked up at.
However, last night the “pod” of white bass had shrunk incredibly. I noticed a local, who has been hitting them hard. Hopefully, he hasn’t cleaned them out!!
    We returned everyone we caught.

I’ll keep an eye out for ya. I drive a Lund Rebel(dark green) with a 50 Evinrude.
