    I’m a rookie to Pool 4 and river fishing in general.I was wondering how to go about locating some sand flats and try my luck with some ringworms.I have the dam fishing down pretty good but now want to do a little exploring.I only have about three hours a crack when I am down there so any help in locating some castable flats would be great.I may have an open seat next Wed. if anyone is interested let me know.Will fish from 5:45-10:00 am if fishing is good.Looking forward to fishing some sand.

    Sand flats are all over the river. Most sand flats are built during high water when high currents push sand up on a pile. Lot of these sand flats are on bends in the river. These sand flats on bends are not only made by high water but by barges. Barges kick their motors in high gear when trying to turn corners. When this happens sand is continuously piled up over time. A sand flat can also be areas between wingdams. Most channel edges between wingdams will hold fish on these flats. Another good area is near islands. The lower end of islands have good sand behind them. At one time these island use to be bigger but with erosion over time spreads the sand out. Straight stretch in after a turn is a good area to key on also. Barges are still running there motor full gear to make up for the swing of the barge. Wash board looking areas are created when this happens.

    I hope that helps.

    Excellent job Fireflick. With info like that anyone should be able to find sand flats in any pool
    Also was a great answer TBO/MN. Be prepared to do all of the above.

    Jarrad;
    Is this “wash board” effect what others call “Sand Dunes”?

    Great explantation Jarrad! Now you’ve got me thinking of a few areas I had not considered this time of year! Guess I’ll have to invest some time and find out if there are fish there .
