I’ve been handlining since later part of April or the beginning of May. I went out for the first time then with Hutch and I was hooked instantly !! Since then I’ve been out walleye fishing alot and every time out I’ve been giving this technique at least a shot. Well the more I learn the more fish I’ve boated. Well today I was out on the river with my wife and the river was nuts with boat traffic. We were enjoying the water and the sights when I said …lets go do a little hand lining…..It was around noon or so ….I set up the reel and leads …put a # 7 FR on a 10′ lead off the bottom of the shank and a # 9 black and gold FR on the 3rd clevis up and let my wife run the reel. In 3 passes of a streach about 75yrds long she pulled up 4 fish !!! I’ll put her First Fish Hand Lining on as an attachment !! She picked it up like she had been doing it for years !! I’m very proud of her !!!

Ec, the attachment didn’t work, no fish. You will have to try again as we all want to see the fish now. Bill

Oh well, we will just figure it was 40inches long and was a walleye since it was your wife who caught it!

    Hey EC,

Check the file size on that photo. If its over 100 KB the system will reject it.

This is a new one for me guys. Most of my river fishing for walleyes has been by way of trolling but I can see by experience and reading these posts that variety of technique is a must. What is hardlining? I read another post about trolling a #5 Shad Rap in 20-25′ of water by this method. Everyone knows that a no. 5 doesn’t dive that deep on its own. Must be a heavy leader or something that gets the plug down deep. Anyone care to explain the finer points?

theres a good intro article on handling in the article section.. just go to the FTR home page.. look at the top of the page for “articles”… there will be an article called the “Art of Handlining”
