Planning on fighting the weather tomorrow. What time would you guys say would be the best time to get there? The hot bite times? And now that I got a fresh supply of BfishN tackle what would be the best combo to start out with, 1st trip to the pool! Thanks in advance.

As far as time of day on pools 7,8 and 9 there has not been much of a diffrence in time of day. The trick has been finding a group of eyes and working them to death.
Good luck fishingMarch 12, 2005 at 12:22 am #349067I will be posting my results tomorrow evening!! Can’t wait til morning
March 12, 2005 at 12:25 am #349069My thoughts mirror Brets. Once you find fish, stay on them because you will be able to pull quite a few before they move on. I have been having the best luck on the brighter colors of BFT ringworms. I don’t know what the water clarity is up there, but here we are dirty and the bite has been all day.
March 12, 2005 at 5:12 am #349120the main channel is quite clear. the other day, the vermilon DID have quite a bit of dirty water coming in. hay creek prob is the same but did not go up there. more flow and water color, and fishing will go nuts. Jack..
March 12, 2005 at 9:44 pm #349234Just got back, not too bad of a day biggest fish was 19in smallest 13in total of 5. I guess you could say it was fairly slow. Really cold temps if the wind hit ya right!
March 18, 2005 at 1:01 pm #350532Time to re-kindle the chatter about Pool 4. Heading there Saturday am for three-nite stay at Everts. anyone been giving it a crack this week, with the goofy weather moving in and out???. From the looks of the forecast, we’ll be greeted with some “heavy snow” …coming down pretty good in Waukesha right now. Good thing Steve’s got that plow……
March 18, 2005 at 1:17 pm #350536One thing about the bad weather, the traffic on the river should be pretty light!! Good luck and report back on how you do!!!
March 18, 2005 at 2:05 pm #350545Pool 4 is awfully darn good right now. I ran my first guide trip of 2005 yesterday and we landed a slug of 20″ – 23″ fish along with enough under 20″ fish for eaters. We dragged ringies in the AM up near the dam and had fish every pass until 9 AM or so and then we went pitching. The mid-day shallow bite was VERY good and I’m not sure if that was due to the front rolling in or not but it sure was a hoot with the fish being abnormally agressive.
I’ll get a more detailed report up this afternoon but if you can get away I would recommend the trip right now.
March 18, 2005 at 6:49 pm #350631Thanks James…now you really got me stirred up. Now my Illinois buddy cant make it till Sunday, so we’ll be hitting the road bright and early (actually still dark at 5am) and hope to be wetting lines by 11am That’ll learn me to hang around with Illinois folks….can you keep on fire for us till then?? Will be looking for your report later….and looking for you on the water Sunday BCNU
March 19, 2005 at 3:16 am #350773I fished pool 4 on thursday too. Wasn’t quite as successful as James, but I did catch some decent fish. Tried hitting some shallow areas right away that didn’t produce. So I tried James’ program of dragging jigs. Caught some fish doing this and learned how to refine my presentation a bit while fighting the southeast wind. Pro blue and oystershell were my best colors. The walleyes I caught were 17-21 inches long(all released). Missed a few fish too that I didn’t get a good hook set on. Tried jigging for sauger by the dam and bay point park for a bit also which wasn’t very successful. Should have tried hitting my shallow water spots in the afternoon, i guess. It was even kind of quiet in the afternoon as many guys left early. It may pay off to hit the water in the afternoon and fish till dark rather than early morning. Good luck to all this weekend.
