I am wondering what is the most successfull way to rig a 3 way. Do you use a floating jig? Do you rig with a bottom bouncer and a rapala? I’ve been fishing pool 8 and 9. Any information would be appreicated.

    Sincerely

I fish more stickbaits this time of year and move to floating jigs and bait some time in May.

Ditto James’ reply. Post spawn, I use floaters or crawler harness spinners much more. When using bait this time of year on a 3-way, I almost exclusively use it on a Dubuque rig.

james, what seems to be the best size original rap to run on a three way?, or do you let the fish dictate?. any tips for when to switch it up – size/color?.

    thanks, josh

I do best on the #7 & #9’s. Don’t overlook smaller rogues too. They can be hot at times. As the water warms and the fish get more aggressive around the spawn I can get more bites on larger plugs and pulling at faster speeds.

That said, Dustin and I did some playing around last week pulling BIG sticks on heavy rigs and caught the ba-jesus out of the big saugers. Our smallest sauger over a 3 hour period was 3.3 lbs… and we caught a BUNCH. We used #14 husky jerks and super rogues trolled at 1.1 – 1.3 MPH and the saugers couldn’t seem to leave them be. So sometimes you break all the rules about fishing smaller when the temps are cold and come away with positive results.
