Had a great morning out on pool 10, ended up with 7 keepers, and one real monster. I had the pleasure to share my boat with Chuckles, and I tell ya what, he had a hot stick today. This hog tipped the scales at 12.3lbs.

Thanks sprig, she is still out there swimming around – hopefully will spawn a boat load of little ones with the genetic potential to be just like mamma. It sure is fun seeing the big girls swim away after a few pictures and a few measurements. Caught her on a rod I built for walleye fishing… thanks Dave for taking me out… nice day on the river I won’t ever forget – or likely top any time soon! But I’ll still be out there trying!!! Chuckles helped teach me rod-building. Now if he could teach me how to boat a hog like that…..

Thanks Ryan – hope I can catch a bigger one someday but that might be a tough job to complete (Lake Erie maybe?)- but I’m up for the adventure. Thanks for the praise on my rods – I keep telling you I put a little magic into each one I build.

Always looking for a new challenege so may have to swing out and see what the Iowa Great Lakes are like for fishing – have drank a few beers there in college – but never had a chance to fish the area… definiteley would be fun – I appreciate the offer Ryan. I would love to see those boys of yours put each of the rods you had me build for them to use sometime and see the grins on their faces. Took my boy out yesterday and he outfished me – stinker. Remember Ryan to never teach them everything you know – they ‘ll just use it to outfish you someday if you do!!! LOL I’m sure glad you take your boys fishing alot – the future of this sport depends on it. Chuckles

We had a pretty good weekend. Started out saturday a.m. up at the dam, not much going on, got a few dinkers. I decided to run down and try a “spot”. Me and my little bro got 6 keepers before lunch, then we ran up to the rock caught the end of the iowa game and had a great burger! Went back down, and got 3 more keepers and called her a day around 4. On saturday my brother beat me up pretty good on a 3 way with a minnow. I think I caught 3 on a K-tail, and he got 6 on the 3 way. On Sunday Chuck and I had similar success. I had more numbers on the jig, but he beat me pretty good on size on the 3 way. There was no super set depth or position, they seemed to be spread pretty good, staging on there way to the dam.

Superdave, How cool is that!!! I’m glad things are going good, It was a good boat for me, and i’m sure you’ll have a lot more great days on the water. We will have to get together to fish. I just had a call,as i’m typing, my trolling motor finally came in, I need to buzz down and pick it up, maybe I can get out and chase a few. Congrats on the great day. Ron

Congrats. That is a Great Fish. Did you get a length/girth measurement? What was that sow caught on plastic, meat, or stickbait?

She was 29 1/4 inches and didn’t get girth – we were to flabergasted to think about it, but – you can see that she had a belly and a half on her – and wide shoulders if you take my meaning – she really looked healthy compared with the spawned out female about the same length I got on Mille Lacs in the previous spring. Went 12.3 pounds on the digital scale and it has been very true in the past so no reason to doubt it now… it was a thrill to release her – got some photos of the release on my 35 mm but will have to shoot some more fish-pics to burn the rest of that roll up before processing… The presentation was a three way rig and minnow… not my favorite way to catch them as I love my jigs… but I can’t complain at this point. Here’s a closer look at her in all her glory. Chuckles
