I found Dresbach to be the same as Genoa Saturday. There are alot of people fishing the hole in front of the dam. Good for me Less boats to deal with.I have been finding a little nicer fish in 20 -25FOW. They are scattered through out the channel. My best bait was a Catalpa Super doo. The diffrence from Genoa was today they just wanted the bait to be a slow back troll. No jigging, just dragging. The pic is a 18.5″ Walleye and a 19″ saug. I also kept a 15″, 2 16″ and 1 17″Saug. for the table I caught many fish in the 14-15inch class. It was a beauty morn’n to be on the water.

Well done staying out of that kill zone

those are two dandy fish you caught there too. you say you caught them on a catalpa Super Do…did you try any other plastics ? Did any of them work ?

    another question….

were you dragging your jigs up stream or down or both ?

thanks for your time in my questions…

The purple/white ring worm and junebug super do worked well in Genoa Saturyday. Caught and released a 20.5″eye from Genoa on a Junebug Super do. They were hitting the ring worm short today in Dresbach. When I made the change to Catalpa this morn’n the hit was hard
I was dragging them down stream. Trying to match the current speed againts the wind.

I fished Sat up and down the channel with mixed results. Took a chiily ride down stream in the AM Sat to fish the Black River. Caught a few fish back there. The landing at Dresbach is in tough shape; very shallow. Sunday took my son out for the first time this year and put in at the 7th St landing(much better, less traffic and nice deep, concrete landing) Drove up stream to fish the rip rap and the area behind the power plant. Didn’t catch anything but my son(6) and I praticed working ringworms and it was just plain nice to out be on a beautiful day.

That was us behind the power plant. Did the kid have a bottle of purple Gatorade and a Twix bar in his hand? Once I brought that out fishing was over for a little while.

It was a slow start at first but I found a pocket of fish in 20-23FOW. I started with catalpa super doo with a few hits, made a change up to the junebug super doo and it seemed to be the color. I kept 2 nice saugers for the table. I released at leaste a dozen more in the 14-16″ class. Luky for them I have filets in the freezer The sad part of the day, I lost 2 pigs at the boat They would have made great pics I was also brike off once. There are some dandy eyes stack at the edge of the channel. They wanted a little jigging action. Dragging did not seem to pick up much.

Nice fish Bret-What time were you there, I fished for hour and a half then had to leave. Caught 3 fish over 21 inches, wanted some to eat but just a little big and all females. caught vertical jigging with chartreuse ringworm. 13-17 ft of water-John

John – we all appreciate it when guys voluntarily let the females go, even on days when that’s all that makes it to the boat. There’s a lot of us guys out there doing it and it does make a difference. I thank you and I hope more guys that read this site will get with the program and let ALL walleyes over 20″ go free!

I fished from 11:00 – 4:30. I agree there were some dandys smack’n. Way to go John, those sound like nice picture fish The 2 I kept were 18″ male saugers. The fish I found were stacked tight. Had to stay right on top of them to get them to hit. What a diffrence from one week to the next. After looking at the forecast for the weekend I plan on being out on the water Saturday and Sunday. Man, work sure gets in the way but it does pay the bills

James-there was a time when a fish was a fish and it went home, but just before this site went on-line, I made a decision to not keep every fish in the boat, saying that, and after reading all the messages on here has made me realize that it is very important to let the females go, especially this time of year.–Bret I hope to fish this weekend also, maybe I will cya on the water. I agree with you John, I never have been greedy with fish going in the freezer but my ethics have changed because of this site. You should have seen my fishing partners face the first time he saw me put back a walleye over 20″ Now it is every day practice in our boat. It hurt at first but became easy after a couple of times.
I plan on being on the water both days, when I have a time and place I will let you know John.
    Good fishing

?? I am new to this area. When you are talking about the Dresbach area are you fishing right under the I90 Bridge or the next pool up. Also where is the best acces for a bigger boat. Any info is greatly appreciated.

    GTR,

when we refer to Dresbach, yes we typically mean the area right below the dam there….

Big Boat launch access on Pool 8..I would recomment the Clinton Street launch. It’s well suited for very large boats.

Slow but a beautiful day. I might have done it backwards but I kept 2 19″ eyes and released 5 in the 16-17″ class. Nothing real big today. I am in love the Super Doos. For me they have been out fishing the ringies 4 to 1. I’m sure this will change but for now it is my favorite plastic. I couldn’t find any schools of fish. They still seem to be scattered along the channels edge.

I worked the area behind the power plant most of the afternoon and managed to take home three nice saugers. This was a first for me today. I brought minnows with but my hand never made it into the bucket all day. I fished ringworms exclusively all day and caught several little ones and the three I brought home.(The pepper green worked best) I still can’t drive by a bait shop without stopping and getting minnows but I am getting there. Saw two different guys catch huge channel cats. One weighed in at 48 lbs and the other was 33 lbs.

Are you sure they weren’t flathead cats? a 48lb Channel cat would be a new state record

Hey Bret, nice fish …I think I may have seen you today up at dresbach. I was in an Alumacraft Navigator, Merc, just north of the I90 bridge and I think you were just north of me floating the east edge. Not really sure, as I dont know your boat but your photos kinda look like the guy that was just north of me when the barge went through.??

Anyway it started slow for me , half a dozen small fish but wound her up with 2 – 20″ers. Not a fast day but like bret said it was a nice day to be out. I’m having photo resizing issues so can’t post photos until I get it figured out… …………Murf…I may have the sizing figured out

Slop, you are correct. I should have said catfish-I don’t know one kind from the other. No, they released both fish.

I had a fella fishin’ by me, wrestling with a big fish for 35 to 40 minutes. I figured it to be a big cat…wrong… .50 + inch sturgeon / 6 pound test . Was fun to watch. took a bunch of photos and emailed them to him. He was pretty excited….and yes the fish was released in great condition….Murf

I left before he had it landed. I watched for awhile. He sure had his hands full
