We spent about 3 hrs between the dam and the Alma launch this afternoon. Put about 15 fish in the boat between the two of us. Saugers and walleyes. Fatheads or plastics, with plastics taking ~ 2/3 of the fish. Depths between 18 and 26 ft. Water’s in great shape down there. Good clarity, relatively gentle flow. And a fraction of the boats working the Red Wing area!
Fishing below Alma dam is really good right now for numbers. If you put your time in for quality fish you will get them. This is just one of our fish we got today. Look for bigger pictures the next night or two when I put up the report from today. This is just a teaser for now. See even bass guys can catch walleyes Who is this guy??
Good job Jarrad and John – I thought maybe I saw you out there Jarrad but never really met you so I wasn’t sure – I know John but from my vantage point I thought maybe it was a client an ddidn’t want to bother you. I was originally going out just to shake down the new boat but ran into some smallies so I was having a blast! Then the walleyes moved in and the smallmouth bite turned off. Went back today and caught 3 smallmouth that bumped, several short ones and 4 nice eyes including a fat 27.5″ fish that was nicely colored. Now it looks like Thursday will be the next time out.
Congrats on the 27″. We were also out today soaking up the sun. We spent most of our time from the power plant upriver to the dam. As Jarrad said, good numbers below the dam. We didn’t connect on any quality fish but had a really nice run of saugers and legal eyes between 4:30 and dark. All of our fish were on plastics: paddletails and superdoos, chartreuse/pepper or yellow. Got through the weekend without ever touching a minnow!
Thanks for the picture, and yes, a bass guy stumbles into a walleye once in a while. It was my pleasure sharing the afternoon with you. Greg, You found the smallies…cool! That’s why I was out there but I couldn’t locate them. Through in a big walleye…what a day! I did well on Friday and Sunday. Is you new boat mostly white? You have a PM.
