Hey Guys. I haven’t seen any reports on Pool 14. Has anyone been out? I assume that all of the boat ramps in the Clinton area are now open. I am hoping to get out Friday afternoon and possibly on Sunday also. I will post a report on Monday. Let’s get the info flowin!! Thanks,

I’d be interested to know how you do and how cold the water is? My little club will be fishing competitively over that way in a couple of weeks and I have never fished the river below the Guttenberg area. Any info on the Bellevue dam area would be most appreciated.

Be aware that there are closed fishing areas in the tailwaters below the dams at Dubuque, Bellevue and Clinton. These three areas will be open for fishing on March 16th but are closed until then. I believe that all the boat ramps in or near these areas will have a sign posted that gives you the exact closed area. At Clinton I believe the closed area runs about a mile downstream from the dam. I can’t give you any fishing reports from these 3 pools mainly because very few people have been fishing them because of the closed tailwater areas. I did hear of a guy that went downstream from Bellevue a couple weeks ago and caught a few nice walleye. I think he was fishing the ends of wingdams. If you do get out this weekend let us know how you did.

I have not been out for over a week on 14, and have only spent about 5 hours on the pool since the ice went out. Fishing was pretty tough when the flow was very high, but should be picking up now. Be careful for ice flow. It has been keeping me off the water the last couple times I wanted to go out, and has was not good the days I have been out.
I plan on getting out Sunday if possible. Let us know how it goes if anyone gets out! I agree, it is time to get some chatter going. It will be very active in less than two weeks I am sure!

John, were going out tomorrow, probably won’t get there much before noon though. How much ice is still coming down?Any thoughts on what type areas a guy should target? We plan on pithching some Kalins and probably do a lot of vertical jigging. I’ll try to get a report up tommorow night. Rick,

Rick, sorry I could not get back to you earlier. Work keeps getting in the way of my fishing! I’ve not seen any ice flow for a couple days, hopefully you had a good day!
I plan to work some wingdams and maybe channel edges tommorrow. Probably some sand areas too. Hopefully I’ll have something good to report tommorow night!

Channel edges and sand areas were the key this afternoon, nothing on the wingdams.Caught alot of small saugers and short walleyes. We had our best luck using 3-ways and floaters and Dubuque rigs.Pink and red were the best colors of the day, water temp. made it up to 35.4 on LCD. Rick,

I also made it out for a few hours Friday afternoon. It was a great day to be out. I managed to boat approx. 20 walleyes/saugers. Largest walleye was 21″ followed by a 17″ and a couple of 16″ers. The rest were between 13-15″. All were released. A majority of the fish were caught vertical jigging superdoo’s and ringworms in 18-24′ of water adjacent to 30’+ sand holes. Several flurries of peak activity during the afternoon which resulted in 4-5 fish in a couple of minutes. Best colors for me were junebug, purple/white tail, and catalpa orange. I also tried pitching some riprap before dusk with no takers.

fished with a buddy sunday morn for 2 hours. my first time out since before thanksgiving thanks to lower back problems. it was a trial and error for sure, not knowing if anything would work setting in the garage that long. lucked out for sure, found some nice eyes. first one of the day a 21″ male, what a bright color he was. the next 9 maybe all between 14″ and 15″. my buddy was fishing with tails and minnows, and me the baitless ringys. hey they work what a blast and hang on to your poles. would have like to stay out longer but he couldn’t so i had to settle for a hardee’s fish sandwich. not sooooooo bad! it was just great to get back out again.
