After the snow storm hit on saturday night and finally settled down when sunday morning rolled around me and a couple of buddies decided it whould be a great day to go and try for some eyes. We didnt get to EVERTS til about 11:30. By the time we cleaned the snow off the boat and got to fishing it was 12:30. We went out in search of some new spots to try and find fish for the upcoming tournies. We Fished the minnesota side on the rock shore line from the 300ft. line down to the first wingdam. We were just drifting down and pulling ringworms and k-grubs. Not quite verticle but not dragging. somewhere in-between.Our best colors were tequila sunrise and electric blue. We also tried vertical jigging sonars and ended up catching our bigger fish on them. White with red seemed to work with them. Within 45 minutes of fishing we could have had our 3 man limit of 16″ to 19″ walleyes. we had a good streak going for about 2 hours and then it started to die off. In those 2 hours we had 38 fish with only 1 walleye being short of the 15″ mark. Included in the 38 fish we had 4 fish that were right around the 5 lb mark. All were around 21 to 22 1/2 inches. By about 3 o’clock when the action slowed we decided to run back to the truck and grab the camera. Of couse we didnt think about bringing right away . After we got back out the action was still a little slower then the past few hours but the fish we got ran bigger. We fished until 8 o’clock with only catching 4 fish from 6 until 8. By the end of our trip we had 54 fish between the 3 of us with only 1 short walleye and 4 saugers. By the way the saugers were 2- 19″ and 2-20″, Big saugers All in all it was a great day Pics in the following posts.

This was our biggest one of the afternoon hitting the scales at 9 LBS 10 OZ. It just nailed a white with red sonar.

the fish we caught with the sonars were hooked in the mouth not snagged. Actually they had them just about down into the gullet. As you can tell the date on the camera is wrong also. All in all was a great day and i wish we would have brought the camera right away but we just couldnt quit fishing to go get it when they were biting so well.

Wow, nice work on those . What kinds of depths were the best for you? Also, when you say the Minnesota side do you mean the south side of the Lock channel or the south side of the Rollers?

Those are some great fish. I hope I can get up there in the next couple of weeks. I hope that I am not to late. When you are talking about the mn side were you up by the dam or down the river? (working wing dams, rip raps, depth?) I don’t get down there to often so I would like it if I could get a little info if I can. thanks steve

Great fish!!! I too chickened out on Sunday. I didn’t want to try and trailer on the roads. It snowed off/on all day in the cities. Dang it I wish I lived closer to the river!!

Yeah we ventured out from eau claire. It wasnt to bad of a ride down but it was kind of slippery in some spots. By 8 when we left the roads were just about dry. The snow quit there somewhere around 3 o’clock. We were fishing on the south side of the rollers. we were staying around 8 to 15 F.O.W.
