Does anyone know the results from the Walleye Tournaments held in Lake City and/or Red Wing on 6/8/02?

31 pounds won it. Webster and Webster was the first place team. They apparantly were fishing a wing dam up by the rollers. 2nd and 3rd dropped to 21 pounds or there about. It fell off quick and most of us had a hard time finding bigger fish. Big fish was a little over 8lbs. 6 fish was fairly easy, but the larger fish seemed to go into hiding for alot of people. Someone may be able to post better results for you, but this is coming from my very poor memory.

That’s respectable!!! On Saturday, we caught and released 1-8#-11oz, 1-6#-11oz, and 1-6#-10oz. We also released 11 other fish 20″ or larger. I figured that we had roughly 32#’s of fish on 6 fish. I just wanted to see how I fared against the pro’s.
I’d just like to voice my opinion of some of these tourney fishers. I was out early Saturday morning fishing near Maiden Rock before the tourney boats made their way to that end of the lake. In a ten minute span we had four Pro-Vs run up on us at full-throttle and buzz within 40 yards of us. I personally would never do that to any other boat on the water. It’s a respect thing. I don’t really care how much money is on the line or how good some of you think you are. There’s is no excuse for thowing ethics out the window when it’s tourney time. Needless to say we left Maiden Rock and headed down to Long Point where, yet again, the tourney boats insisted they were more important. We caught a lot of fish that day everywhere we went regardless of all the selfish monkeybutts. Basically all I’m saying is have a little respect for us non-pros. We may not have the big shiny boats with big fat outboards, but we have as much right to be on the water as you.
You are absolutely correct! I myself used to fish bass tournaments. I too was one of these idiots that thought they owned the river. I showed little or no respect for the “weekend angler”, or any other angler for that matter. It was all about the money and glory. Today, I am a weekend angler. I witness the tournament anglers trying to rule the water. I never realized what a jerk I was until I quit tournament fishing and started enjoying fishing again. The only thing that I can tell you is to record the boat numbers and a description of the boat and report it to the tournament director. Most tournament rules spell out that courtesy is part of the game. Not only are tournament anglers to respect on another, but they are definately supposed to respect you and I, the weekend angler. I do not mean to bash tournament anglers. The majority of them are great people as well as great anglers. It’s just like anything else, one bad apple spoils it for everyone.
Enjoy fishing and respect each other.
fyi, almost everyone in this kind of tournament is not a pro angler. I would starve to death if that were my occupation. The entry fee was only $75 the pros would laugh at such a tournament. It doesn’t mean that there are not jerks involved in these tournaments, but there are jerks who are just weekend anglers. Courtesy does not apply to just tournament anglers it applys to all of us. I do not have what i would consider a big rig it is 1750 fishhawk with a 90hp engine, not exactly a big rig. Most of the big rigs out there saturday were bass fisherman who were all pros and I never had a problem with them. I’m sorry people made your day less than spectacular, but be careful to assume they were involved in a tournament.

You know this seems to come up alot around tourney time and everytime it does I just sort of chuckle. for one 40 yards which is 120ft is not that close. and I guess my point is that I don’t come on the board and complain about all of the weekend warriors that were out and ran what I thought was to close to my boat! if we all want to do that than you might as well go to WC!!!! besides how do you know those four boats were fishing the tournament.
as you can probely tell yes I am a tournament angler and I do run a Pro V but I was not one of those 4 that you seen.
all I can say is there are some A holes out there and there not all tourney anglers. but theres no reason to start calling other fisherman basterds or any other names fisherman are suppose to help other fisherman and I can say almost everyone in that tourney would go out of there way for anyone. and thats the way it should be sorry you feel that way but tourney anglers get discouraged at other fisherman also but they don’t have to get up and leave a spot just because you moved in on them. we are all fisherman and thats what counts. if you want to yell at somebody yell at the jet skiers.
Oh ya here we go again. Well Nate; We all know that satan drives a tournement boat.
that was pretty well put nate, 40 yards isn’t really that close, if you are all upset about 40 yards, i would hate to see it if someone buzzed you at 10-15 yards. A good majority of these pro fisherman make a good chunk of their money from these tournaments. Sure they get money and that from their sponsors, but how do they get sponors? I do agree that some of them can be some real big jerks, but then again callin all of them monkeybutts isn’t really going to help that.
I fish the river (pool 4) as much or more than most anyone. I fish it year round and (not in, but) thru many tournaments. I know that the worst time of the year for me is when the water warms and the pleasure boats and jet ski’s start showing up.
I can not stand the constant waves and commotion while I am trying to fish. some come within 30 40 yards when they have the rest of the river channel but I give them the benefit of the doubt (ignorance) they do not know any better than to come real close they wave and laugh fall off the tubes/jet ski’s/water ski’s and sometimes even ask how they are biting. I don’t get mad anymore.. I have decided it is not worth it to get mad, it wont change anything.
The next stress period is the spring and fall sauger “jig fishing” festival. It is a zoo.. a lot of the “average joe” fishing guys will crowd the heck out of you.. I just nod and smile or they will anchor in the middle of a stretch you have been drifting or working pitching or trolling (that happens a lot)! No problem they will be off the water in a couple weeks anyway.
The third is the tournament fellas, I have a bunch of friends that fish them. I have prefished them myself with these guys (pool 4). It is NOT hard to know the guys that are fishing the tourney’s by the way. The are balls to the walls go go.. well they are fishing for a paycheck and whenever that is involved that is going to happen. I have been buzzed by tourney guys, that doesn’t make me mad really.. What makes me mad is the ego/attitude of some of them.. MOST are super guys and are very considerate, but you will have some that are just plain dinks and like it was stated before it only takes a couple to make a bad name for the rest..
The short of it is that there is good and bad with every crowd, just like in everything else. When you are out there fishing , It is supposed to be FUN. Don’t let anyone spoil it and get you worked up. If you fish a lot you will come to realize that it will always happen and there is nothing you can do about it but control YOURSELF.
If you fish the river with consititency remember to be considerate and nice and poeple will remember you, if you do the opposite poeple will also remember you. I have met a lot of jerks that are regular’s and I have met a lot of guys that I consider good buddy’s that fish on the river. It has been stated before, the river and it’s participants are like a unique little community. Word travels fast in community;s when you and your rig pull into the launch or up the the dam, or wherever. What do you want poeple to say about you? Hey there is Joe Blow he is a real monkeybutt or he is a heck of a guy?
Have to agree with Nate 40 yards is a long ways. In my boat I could passby you witrhin 15 yards and you might not even notice me go by.LOL Half speed is usually a lot worse than up on plane and flying, so I guess that is pretty much the right thing to do. I do wonder though why you left? If you really have a real isssue with the situation, I would have thought you would have held your spot and continued fishing??? You do have a right to be there. Anyway I’m glad you got alot of fish there and other places. Posts like this although the language was unnecessary, do make folks more aware of the others using the resource, but in this case I still don’t know what the offense was?? Lawrence
Well said mike, what list do I fall under ?see you on the water buddy.
Forty yards does seem like a pretty good swath to cut around someone. I’m not sure I give people much more than that, and I have never fished a tourney in my life. A lot of the rivers and lakes down here just don’t have room to give people much more than that. Hawger could probably back me up when I say that Coralville is maybe 70 yards wide from bank to bank for the entire length. If you want to fish there, you know in advance that you’ll have to put up with the power boaters, who have every right to be there.
As far as someone taking over “your” spot, it’s really not yours to begin with. I know that there are rude people who will anchor in an area that you’re working with the trolling motor – some guys I know will just motor over, cut the anchor rope, and give them a push good-bye and good riddance.
For the most part, I have never had a bad experience with tourney fishermen. When they’re burning it up, they stick pretty much to the main channel. Every once in a while one will run you over, but my impression has always been that it is much worse on lakes, where there is no dedicated right-of-way. A few rotten eggs wreck it for the whole bunch.
I’ve never considered turning them in to the tournament directors before. If even a single boat was banned from one tourney, the word would spread fast enough that everyone might start minding their manners.
We also know that alot of times people fishing Maiden Rock are fishing the edge of the flat which puts you out in the middle of the lake as it goes out and then comes back in some.
well, jamie as long as you keep taking me fishing your o.k in my book.. CONGRATS!! on the big pay day… you deserve it!!
Not to jump on anyone band wagon, but I too fish these type of tourneys and 40 yards is a good distance, if the cut that your fishign in is 50 to 60 yards wide. Now if you on the main channel it could be a different story. I really don’t have a problem with the average tourney fisher, my problems is the joy ridign show off jet skiers who have to show off to someone when your the only one out there and they come screaming down your cut. Nuff said.

I was fishing the wat tourney at Lacrosse last weekend. Me and another boat were trolling in running slough. He was about 20yds in front of me and we were about 10-15 yds apart. A bass boat came into the slough wot at least50+ mph around a blind turn and blew by between me and the other boat. The guy was not fishing because he came out in 2 minutes. Than proceded to come in and out 4 or 5 times in the next hour. I checked with the people fishing the bass tourney at the same launch and they said it was`nt and body from them but they were also being buzzed by the same guy all day.Now you tell me how a tourney guy is suppose to handle this. Enough of bad rapping tourny boats. And to the guy with the white bullet bass boat and the gray beard you are lucky your boat is new and has no numbers on it yet.I would not try that here in Chicago, somebody will put something up side your head as you smile going by.
