For those of you who know me, my game is smaller rivers/streams and lakes. However, I am learning THE river!

That said, what have you people found for a bite when the river is on the rise(this time of year?) Yes, I know this was covered heavily in the EARLY Spring, but I am curious how it will effect the bite, if there is a difference(which I believe there is) from the cold Spring flooding to now?

Any tactics or strategies you have found your self immediately turning to after major rains?

I plan on trying stuff myself this Friday, but heck, sure would like some help or at least an idea or two?!

    Keep the rods bendin’!!!

PS> I can’t stream fish right now, since most are out of their banks or running chocolate!!! SO why not hit the Big River?

I dont think it affects the BITE at all. Its June. Prime feeding time. Find the walleyes…and you will catch them. Its all about location now. This is one of the Walleye’s hungriest months and also the bass are insane right now so fishing is real good.

The river up on this end is actually in pretty good shape. The clarity has dropped off… but not bad. And the debris in the water is at a minimum. Temps dropped 10 degrees (surface temps) and the first fish today was still a sow 29″ walleye. So what to do? Go fish! The fish didn’t even notice the rise in water levels as far as I’ve noticed. The should be right where you last left them.

I don’t fish the lake, but I know that (james, Dustin etc.). have been catching a lot of nices eyes despite the water rise… I have been taking a break from catting as of late and have really been targeting walleye;s in the river. They are hungry and are still biting.. me and steve (evert’s resort) have really found some nice fish rite around the resort and in the back waters…. any type of depth with some current breaks have been key…… water is really clearing up and this weekend should be a good one……

i usually find that the june rise in lake pepin makes for some wonderful fishing. Near pepin, the shores are lined with rip rap and/or willows. The last half hour before sunset is prime for the shallows. Casting, trolling or jigging will produce. Also, I got my limit this weekend trolling deep diving cranks at the mouth of the Chippewa R. About 15 ft. of water. Also had luck trolling the flats in about 13-14 ft. of water. My wife caught a 25 in. casting cranks by Pepin Pier. All sorts of good fishing right now. Just get out there and fish.

I have to say one thing about big rains. The day after thunderstorms is definitely NOT an easy one to fish. I took the old man out on the river Monday, right after the Sunday night t-storms, and had pretty miserable luck. We stayed near the dam on pool 4, didn’t have a huge amount of time. Seems like the fish get as nervous as the rest of us do when there’s funny flashing lights in the sky.

Looks like it’s back to normal again. I’ll try my luck with Mom on Saturday down at the lake.
