I went down to the culvert by the woodshed and the harbor, because I heard they were catching crappies and white bass. I went yesterday the day after the big storm. We caught 1 sun fish. I did talk to a younger kid who had pulled in his words ” 61 northerns in 3 days” Is this a good spot to fish, Im still learning pool 4 its very different from pool 9 any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about the culvert just across the bridge out of Red Wing?

Lots of crappie get pulled from there as well as some super nice pike… when the water’s high. Later in the summer that spot is reduced to a carp hole for the most part… but all this rain should have fish in there for the time being.

James is right.I haven’t fished it for a couple of years but, used to get lots of BIG crappies there, late spring, early summer, when the water was high..We would get there at first light and for the first hour or two of daylight, the action could be non-stop.Lost more than one slab, trying to hoist them up on top the culvert.I’ve also fished there a few times in the wee hours.(1to 5 in the morning)Never did well enough to justify the loss of sleep but did catch two 8lb.eyes on a crappie rig,on two different nights. It can be quite the popular place and really only room for 4 people on either side, but many more try to squeeze in.Do yourself a favor and fish it mid-week if you can
