Fished Maiden Rock on Sunday morning. Trolled fast in 7-9 feet with small walleye-divers. Caught 38 walleye in 3 hours. Bouncing the bottom was the key. Good colors were red, orange and pink/white, with pink/white catching two for every one on the other colors. Most fish were 14-16″. Caught three 19″ and one 23″.

    disenmann,

    Sounds like some fast action!

Can I ask how size of wally divers were you pulling?

    Thanks

Not sure what size the manufacturer calls it, but they were the smallest made. Probably equivalent to a 3 or 5 rapala.

The chartruese with orange eyes wally diver is one of my favorites down there. I always call them a number 5, but not sure if that’s technically correct. The only problem is they need to be tuned pretty well when you start hitting the 3mph mark.

How successful have you been tuning those Wally Divers? Mine are doing the same at faster speeds.

When I’m pulling them that fast, if they bang the bottom, they will occasionally roll to the surface. I’ll check them beside the boat and if they are pulling to one side or the other, I’ll bend the eye the opposite way. Sometimes you have to make multiple tweaks to get them to run true. I use a needle nose, try and bend just the top of the eye either left or right of the lure, try not to twist. Though I’ve had to twist them at times to get the bugs worked out also. Good Luck!!

I was just wondering where is the nearest landing to maiden rock? I drove down there to the actual town of maiden rock but could not locate the landing my boat and motor are to small to put in aways away. I have been useing wallydivers for years but I have never tweaked them or tuned them what is this all about? the only trouble I have had is when the ball bearing falls out of the bill or spoon of the diver.

Were you fishing at Pine Creek or the Rush River?

Wing shooter, there is a launch right at Maiden Rock. It isn’t very deep at all, but with a small boat you should have no problem, especially with the water back on the rise a little bit. Turn by “some cafe” can’t think of the name….it’s right on hwy 35. Cross the railroad tracks and it’s right there. You’ll see a big grassy area which is their campground.

Fished west of the Rush last Sunday. They kept jumping in the boat so I didn’t bother trying anywhere else. Hopefully tomorrow will yeild the same results.

In resonse to the ominous weather my little outing Friday(7th) in the evening
kept us from trying Maiden Rock. However, it was fun to fish water that we
had no confidence in and catching! We trolled the shoreline just North of the Hok-si-la landing.
We didn’t catch a lot of walleye, but we managed a 23 and 20 inch walldog, a couple small jacks,
a mongo 9-10 pound sheeper a few sand pike and had one very large fish clean break some brand new braided
    line!
In retrospect, the wind was blowing hard onto that shoreline. ALl in all, we had enough action to keep
things interesting, while learning a new section of water!!

If you are going to fish for smallies hit the MN side of the river from lake city on down. Jigs and cranks should put fish in the boat. I did good on sunday on the smallies in the am hrs on jigs and leeches. Look for the little points to produce the best results. You will probably get a few eyes in the mix as well

Dustin, thanks for the info.I know that stretch better than maiden rock on upstream. I am glad to hear there is still some action with the high water.I check this site everyday and appreciate all the reports.I’ll be in an old off-white and orange starcraft with Iowa tags. See ya out there!
