john, clarity is pretty good, still some grass floating. rollers are in there winter positions. question, does your boat have something like dad’s day off on the side? was out friday, most of the action was before 8:30, and most of that was done on the il. side along the wall. around 9am they were all over in the ia. flats. pretty slow, only thing big was a large gator taken below the rock pile in the honey hole. we left the water by 9:30, my partner had honey doos.

    John,
What do you think most of the guys will do after the December 1 tailwater ban takes effect? Put the boat away for the winter? or search below “the line”?
And how was the fishing Sunday?

3Way, I’ve not been out in my boat for a couple weeks now, but it only says “Starcraft” on the side, plus the model and a really sharp looking IDA sticker on the side.
Water clarity was pretty good today. Look for a report in the next couple days from Tony Apisa. I fished with him out of his boat today, along with a friend of his. Had a pretty good day for post cold front conditions, with high and rising pressure.
Randy, I would guess alot of guys will give up for the winter. I prefer to fish down stream most times anyway, and many will do that. Lots of walleyes to be had on down river, as well as saugers. I wish they would close the season at the dam on November 1 instead of December. Saw a lot of guys fishing deep water today near the dam. Killing every sauger they caught with the swim bladder being forced out by pressure change. I never fish deeper than 25′ to prevent this from happening, at least in cold water conditions. Far too many “fish of the future” get killed every year by unknowing or uncaring people fishing the deep water.
Tony, thanks for a great time on the river today. Gotta do it again soon!

John, what do you think of the idea of closing the Dam area from Dec 1 thru April 31 to give the walleyes and saugers plenty of time to complete the spawn. Alot of meat hunters each year slaughter females full of eggs. Curious of the area on #14 where their is a clear sign telling boaters to not go “beyond this point” or something to that effect. A lot of fisherman venture past that and seem to do quite well. That is where your meat hunters go and fill up. Close it all off until May 1 and you eliminate that problem and preseve some spawning walleyes for the future. The closing from Dec 1 thru March 15 is great for deep sauger but how about the under 20″ inch walleye full of eggs that is caught on March 16 in the “keep out area” by the meathunters. Just wondering what you thought??

I like that idea BFW! I’d love to see it closed from November 1 until May 1. The populations would increase, and it is not that hard for the meat guys to find fish down stream if they take a while to explore and learn.

i agree maybe the dnr is worried about not selling enough lic., but i don’t know that. just a selfish opinion i never seen one at the dam this fall, too busy chasing duck hunters with no ducks to shoot anyways. hard to count the number of (i call them fisherman) setting there in that 30ft.+ water and pull cigar saugers all day long. you know that maybe none of them will survive. maybe if we took a poll john and sent it to the dnr. through all the concerned welfare of our fisheries, maybe someone would take notice. there are people who hate what we have now because they can’t fill there freezers. i know guys who go there everyday and catch lots maybe not there limits everyday and take them home. dahhhh, there is a possession limit, but they never get checked.
