We had several “spurts” of activity throughout the day. Caught fish a little ways down river, in the flats, below the rocks on the Iowa side, on the Illinois side, and in the pocket where you where. Just after your friend left we had brief flurry where we pulled 8 fish in about five minutes! I had some really nice walleyes, in the 22-25″ range, earlier in the day pulling cranks, but could not get any legals on the raps. Them darn big uns would not stay off the line!
We also had a spell right after that pictured fish where we where getting a ton of short hits. Finally dawned on me to sharpen my bottom jig hook, and then I started sticking them again. The fish seemed to come in waves, with lulls in between. I just kept moving ’till I saw fish on my bow depth finder, then held on them until they moved on. I think through the day we had around 45 eyes and saugers in the boat, plus the whites and some other fish, with a lot of nice fish in the mix. I forgot to mention in my report, my partner pulled a 20″ largemouth from the rocks pitching a jig right up to shore and bouncing it out! It hit that strong backcurrent and gave him a real good battle! He thought he had a 6# walleye on the line !
I may not get back up to the dam before it closes, deer hunting coming up next weekend, and then the holidays. I will try to make it at least one more time though. Look forward to meeting you on the water!
