Just starting to unthaw after 12 hours on the water today. Hit the backwaters and put a hurting to some Slobasorus Pike with an ocassional eye in the mix. Water temp was 46 so the walleyes are moving in the back waters on a day to day basis, that is why a prior hot spot is filled with pike. Went to the main channel and hit some nicer fish but low numbers, 22 in eyes and sauger 15-17 in. Fished at the dam till dark and pounded on the 12-15 in Sauger with an ocassional legal eye in the mix. The Fish are puking shad so the colder water must have killed a large amount of shadand that is why the fish were suspended. Jig and minnows were not the ticket, you had to present your bait right in the strike zone to be sucessfull. I seem to notice after the big shad kill the walleys rest for a little bit then the bite turns to plastic. Anyone else seem to notice this? Tight Lines #5
