Okay, I am the only one who fishes the Dubuque pool and doesn’t catch any walleyes/saugers? I’ve tried the tailwaters, wingdams, sand flats, clam beds and the only thing I caught was a few dinks in the tailwaters. Is the pool that bad of a walleye fishery or am I not nearly as good of a fisherman as I think I am? By the way, I have been out at least 7 times this spring.

Hi….Had to laugh kind of, thinking of our MWC tournament there last September. It was awful! I think about 80% of the field zeroed….I guess the conditions weren’t the best; but still that was a pretty bad weigh-in. It was a neat area to fish; I had a blast! But, then again, when don’t you have a blast when fishing! (Well, most of the time.) I’d probably go back and try it again, but there are definitely other places I’d hit first. We did get some decent fish pre-fishing; but not a consistent pattern of any sort.

Good luck down there…and boy, if you figure it out, can you pass along the info! It’d be cool to head back down there and catch fish!

One of the things that is really affecting the fishery in Pools 10-13 is the absence of fish in the 15-20 inch range. That is due to the very poor reproduction walleye and sauger had in 1998 and 1999. I think that is why even Jimmy O is fishing up at Red Wing!!!! On the plus side – there was very good reproduction in 2000 and agian in 2001- so, fishing should get better for you

    Rookie,

Don’t worry…. you’re not the only one who’s been struggling to catch walleyes and saugers on Pool 12 (Dubuque). I haven’t fished Pool 12 since last summer but I found tough fishing then. The summer of 2000 was also slow for me down there. Pool 12 has been much slower than Pool 3, at least for me, the past three summers. Back in the mid 90’s, I use to think the fishing was as good or better on Pool 12 than it was on Pool 3 but not lately. I’m glad to hear Fishsqzr has an explaination. I thought maybe huge numbers on bait fish might be hurting my success lately on Pool 12. It seemed like shad were everywhere during 2000.

I live about 10 minutes from Pool 3 but am originally from Dubuque. My parents have a cottage on Frentress Lake on Pool 12 so I fish Pools 3 and 12 quite a bit.

    Let hope things pick up,

    Boone
