First of all I have to say to John P. down south that I no longer have many worries about the sauger population up our way. Easily 5 to 1 sauger(11-20″s) to walleye as the male walleye and male and female saugers have made their migration and definitely have the feed bag on. More importantly as a whole I guess both species are very fat and strong. Not seeing a whole lot of big Females,(walleye), yet but there are a good number of 2.5-3.5 lb males being caught.
Weeds are still a nightmare!!! With the solid numbers of fish being caught even with the floating weeds it overwelms me to think what the results will or would be without the weeds. We probably were only successful about 20% of the time in getting our jigs to the strike zone without salad all over them and we still caught fish.
I was able to actually make one complete pass yesterday with three-way cranks and it gave us three fish. The next three attempts found us never making it 50 feet without weeds dragging everything backward.
