This coming weekend pool 14 will be crawling with the RCL tourney boats. I was out on pool 14 Sept 15 thru 20th and caught about 10 total walleyes and saugers. When i was there the water came up over a foot and a half and was full of grass. i had my best luck fishing riprap and backwater sloughs. I caught half the fish on the jig dropper of a dubuque rig and the other half trolling cranks. i did not catch a single fish on live bait. i had a chartruese ring worm on the dropper jig and a crawler on the snell. I just talked to my buddy that lives on 14 and he said it is VERY slow and that the water is supposed to come down a foot in the next five days and there is still a lot of junk/grass floating. doesn’t look real promising. i did see a local catch a lot of small walleye right in front of the marina. he was using a three-way with a crawler. he said he was catching 10″ fish after 10″ fish with no keepers to speak of. hope this helps.

Thanks Riverking, I’ll keep on the site for updates. I found some locales going to Moline for the RCL. I hope it picks up soon or I’ll have to go further North.

The tourney guys only got about two hours to fish this pool today. I was out and got one 26″ fish in two feet of water near an inside bend in the channel, drifting jigs. Fish are still very scattered, still a lot of grass and gunk floating down the river. There are some trollable areas, depending on wind and current, but it is very tough bite still. Judging from the RCL day one results, I am definetly not the only one struggling. Should pick up real soon, water temps dropping and flow should be slowing in the next week or so.

Hey, going to 11 this sunday. I would like to know exactly what a dubuque rig is and how it is generally fished. Thanks in advance for the help. Anybody been to 11 recently? Thanks,

a dubuque rig is a threeway rig with the dropper weight being a jig instead of a sinker. depending on the current the jig can be 1/4 oz to 1 oz. i usually put just plastic on this jig/dropper. ringworms, twister tails, etc. on the snell you can use whatever you want. worms, leeches, minnows.

What length snell on the live bait part of the Dubuque rig do you guys go with?

I’m headed up that way tomorrow. Hope it’s nicer than it is today

As a snell with live bait I always stay about 30 to 36 inches back from my drop jig.
